At the December 8 City of Baxley Council Meeting those involved in the Christmas Parade and Winter Wonderland events were recognized and thanked by City Manager Jeff Baxley who said that the events went smoothly, with Mayor Rigdon adding praise to how hard city employees worked and the extra effort they gave. It was estimated that there were between 2,000-3,000 in attendance.
A motion was made by Council Member Tim Varnadore and seconded by Pat Williams to extend the term of Carole Edgy to the Library Board from two years (original amount) to four- beginning in January 2016 through December 2020 and to consider the appointment of Vicky Escalante to the Library Board (recommended by Carole Edgy) to replace Lula Cox for a four year term beginning in January. The motion was unanimously approved.
A motion was made by Council Member Pat Williams and seconded by Council Member Betty Livingston to approve the application to sell (Distilled Spirits for Consumption on Premises Only) and (Beer and Wine for Consumption on Premises Only) at La Cantera Mexican Restaurant, LLC located at 520 West Parker Street. The motion passed with a split vote of 4-2 with Council Members Pat Williams, Betty Livingston, George Skipper and Mayor Pro Tem Esco Hall, Jr. voting for and Council Members Mickey Bass and Tim Varnadore voting against the motion.
Livingston then made a motion, seconded by Bass, to approve one water/sewer discount application, which was passed unanimously.
