Appling County Sheriff Benny Deloach reports that on December 8 the sheriff’s office received a report of a stolen checkbook at Bill Branch Road. The complainant stated his checkbook was missing and when he received his bank statement someone had forged his name to his checks in an amount of over $7,000.00. Investigation led to the arrest of Lucas Basilio Ramirez, 28, of Baxley. Ramirez is charged with burglary and six counts of forgery.
The following are other incidents handled by deputies with the Appling County Sheriff’s Office.
December 4, answered a call to Lakeside Drive in reference to livestock destroyed. The complainant stated his neighbors bulldog killed his eleven chickens. Complainant was advised of legal action he could take.
Dec. 4, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report a theft that occurred on Joe Crapps Road. Investigation led to the arrest of Melissa Rena Burton, 37, of Baxley. Burton was charged with theft by taking.
Dec. 4, answered a call to Ben Carter Road in reference to a domestic. The complainant stated he and family member had a verbal dispute, which led to an altercation. The family member left the residence before an officer arrived. Complainant was advised of legal action that could be taken.
Dec. 5, answered a call to Kennedy Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated she believed family members entered the vacant house and took some items.
Dec. 5, answered a call to Prentiss Road in reference to a domestic. The complainant and ex-husband had a verbal dispute, which led to the ex-husband doing damage to the residence. The ex-husband left the residence before an officer arrived.
Dec. 5, answered a call to Golden Isles West which led to the arrest of John James Porter, 56, of Baxley. Porter was charged with public drunk and is also wanted by Miami Dade County Law Enforcement. Porter is being held for extradition.
