The new system will allow for faster processing of early voting by allowing the registrars office to scan in a voters picture identification card which will be automatically entered into the voting form on the computer, allowing for faster processing times and less paper work.
The initial cost of the system will be $3,000.00, which will include set up and training. There will also be a $500.00 annual updating fee during non-election years and a $1,000.00 annual updating fee for election years. A motion was made by commissioner Ronnie Rentz to approve the purchase with a second coming from commissioner Theodore Wilkerson. The motion was approved unanimously.
Other business
The commissioners opened sealed bids on pest control. The top two bids were placed by Sunbelt Termite and Pest Control from Alma and Green Frog Pest Solutions from Baxley. A motion and a second was made to awarded the contract to Green Frog since the bid was within three percent of the low bid, which is according to board policy given to local bidders.
A tax free bond resolution was approved for Georgia Power Company. The bond will not cost Appling County any money. A motion was made by commissioner Sarah Boatright with a second by commissioner Jasper Tomblerlin to approve the resolution. The motion was approved by all in attendance.
A revised ordinance for pre-paid cell phones was unanimously approved which will add a $0.75 cents E-911 charge for each transaction. A motion was made by commissioner Tomberlin with a second from commissioner Theodore Wilkerson to approve the ordinance.
