Dear Editor,
The annual Relay For Life was held May 6 at the Appling County High School track. The theme for the relay was “We’re Swinging into 50’s for a Cure.” The theme was a really big hit for the 28 teams we had. Some even entered the most decorated tent contest. They dressed their tents up for judging and had a great time with it.
Appling Relay For Life raises $42,000.00
We were blessed to have Monty Milikin as our MC; he’s a gospel singer and songwriter. Monty has a great personality and has done an awesome job for us for the past three years. He’s a blessing.
Thank you Appling County for coming out in such a big way to support the fight against cancer. Maybe you came out to honor or remember a loved one, friend or neighbor, for whatever reason we thank you. Thanks to those who contributed in anyway, whether it was by being a corporate sponsor or donated in other ways like the stage, PA system, bleachers, helped set up the stage area, provided the relay teams with trash cans, donated materials that we needed or you did a great job advertising for the Relay For Life - we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
We cannot forget our team captains and co-captains along with their teams, they did an amazing job. We could not have done it without them. We appreciate all the volunteers, the Boy Scouts and their leaders, Brother Mark Grimes for the prayer and all the wonderful entertainment we had throughout the night. Even down to the smallest donation and your time with everything, joined together like a puzzle is what made the relay an amazingly successful event.
We also would like to especially thank all the survivors and families that came out to walk the first lap dedicated to them and show their support not only for the relay, but for each other as well. I would like to especially thank some of the hardest working and dedicated people I know, the Appling County Relay Committee. A lot of their reasons they give for volunteering are they want to make a difference in the lives of others, maybe it’s a loved one or a friend, that has gone or is going through cancer, and they don’t ever want their children and grandchildren to have to hear they have cancer. The committee is an amazing group, they not only support the relay, but they also reach out to others wherever there is a need. So help us make a difference by getting regular checkups. Doctors please make sure patients know about the necessary steps to take to prevent cancer. Early prevention saves lives.

I cannot thank you enough for all you have done for the Relay for Life. I cannot find the words I should to tell you fittingly. Your kind deeds have meant so much that only one I know can ever repay a service such as the one you bestowed. Therefore to Him I delegate what I cannot express. May God repay you abundantly for all your kind deeds.
