Sarah Jernigan Williams, 72, wife for 54 years to Johnny Wright Williams, Sr., entered into rest on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at University Hospital.
Her funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. at Sweetwater Baptist Church on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 with Dr. Paul Noe and Dr. Eleazer Benenhaley officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Williams graduated from Appling County High School in 1956 and moved to the area in 1959 from Hazlehurst. She was owner/operator of North August Carpet Shop for 40 years as well as owner/operator of Sarah’s Antiques. She was very dedicated to her family and business. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church and loved and supported the Romanian Mission.
Additional survivors include two daughters, Melanie Marie Williams of Charlotte, N.C., and Carrie Joy Francis of Augusta; three brothers, Charles L. Jernigan (Glenda) and Roby Handy Jernigan, II (Brenda), all from Brunswick, Daniel L. Jernigan (Janice) of North Augusta, S.C.; two sisters, Shelba Joy Stone, and Linda J. Gillespie (Robert), all of North Augusta, S.C.; three granddaughters, Sarah Bailie Dye, Jessie Adelaide Dye and Sarah Elizabeth Francis. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roby H. and Marie Jernigan and her son, Johnny Wright Williams, Jr.
Pallbearers were her nephews, Mike Stone, Romie Stone, Bobby Gillespie, Roby Gillespie, Todd Gillespie, Chris Gillespie, Chuck Jernigan, Dan Jernigan, Handy Jernigan, and Randy Jernigan.
The family received friends at the funeral home the evening of Tuesday, June 14, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
