The following are highlights of incidents that were handled by members of the Baxley Police Department over the past several days.
On June 19 at approximately 12:03, answered a call to the Dollar General Store in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with a clerk whom had a person detained for taking some items without paying for them. Charged in connection with this incident was Patricia Gail Wilson, 57, of Surrency, on one count theft by shoplifting.
June 19 at approximately 1:00 p.m., met with a complainant at the U-Store U-Lock Mini Storage in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had cut the lock off of her unit and removed several DeWalt saws and drills, and a black in color, five-horse power Briggs side engine along with several assorted tools.
June 20 at approx. 2:28 p.m., met with a complainant in reference to some recovered stolen property. On arrival officers discovered that several items that had been reported stolen were abandoned in a wooded area off of Walnut Street. Items recovered were a Hover brand wheelchair, a dish network DVR, and a wallet containing several ID papers. All these items have been processed and released back to their rightful owners.
June 21 at approx. 8:02 p.m., met with a resident at an Auburn Street address in reference to an earlier theft. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had went into her metal shed out back of her home and removed several items. The items reported missing were, a green 46-inch Craftsman lawnmower, two green Craftsman yard sweepers, a silver yard cart, a silver diamond plated toolbox, a red in color Craftsman sweeper, two green yard fertilizers and a gray fireproof file cabinet.
June 22 at approx. 6:38 a.m., answered a call to the Appling Co. Board of Education workshop in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with a complainant who told them that sometime over the weekend person(s) unknown had gained entry into the fenced in yard and removed two lawn mowers, and a trailer. One of the mowers is described as being orange in color, and 2014 SCAG Tiger Cat model, zero turn, with a 48-inch deck, bearing serial number H5600415, and model number. The other mower is a 2008 SCAG, Wild Cat model, zero turn with a 61-inch deck, bearing serial number D7200147 and model number STWC61V. Both mowers are fueled by LP gas, and have a silver gas tank mounted on the back of them. The trailer is described as a 2012 Down to Earth trailer with metal flooring, with one gate on the back and one on the right side, and bearing a serial number of 5MYUU2227CB035878. Both the mowers and the trailer have been entered on the GCIC computer network as stolen. The area was canvased along with BOLO being put out to surrounding counties in regards to the theft.
June 23 at approx. 6:22 a.m., met with a resident at a Pine Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that sometime while he was gone from home, person(s) unknown entered his home and removed a General Electric dryer and a Compaq lap top computer. The computer will have an “Elevation Training” sticker on the front of it.
June 23 at approx. 11:48 a.m., answered a call to a Floyd Street address in reference to a shot being fire, and a possible suicide. On arrival officers met with the EMS unit that was already on the scene, and were attempting first aid to a person who had apparently suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. It was determined that the resident, Billie Bliss Kerr, 58, had died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot. The incident scene was turned over to the coroner’s office for follow up.
