On Saturday, June 20 Appling County Deputies issued citations on eighteen individuals for drag racing on Holmesville Road/Highway 121. Receiving citations were David Allen Stephens, 35, of Jesup, Michael Jason Stephens, 39, of Baxley, Brad Lee Gegg, 25, of Jesup, Victoria Megan Johnson Phillips, 25, of Hinesville, Sabrina Harrelson Rentz, 31, of McRae, Jeanmarie Joseph Borgonovo, 25, of Hinesville, John David Sweat, Jr., 38, of Waycross, Dusty Crawford, 27, of Hazlehurst, Rodney Kyle Rozier, 30, of Brunswick, Dustin Travis Williams, 26, of Darien, Jason Michael Kauger, 28, of Baxley, Timothy Walker Rowell, 19, of Baxley, James Eugene Hester, 40, of Surrency, David Dean Dunwody, 44, of Ludowici, Dustin Stewart Campbell, 26, of Surrency, Barry Jaquan Deverger, 23, of Townsend, Jason Lewis Taylor, 36, of Blackshear, also a male juvenile, age 15, of Hazlehurst, was written a juvenile complaint.
Other incidents handled by deputies with the Appling County Sheriff’s Office over the past few days.
Eighteen caught drag racing
On June 11, answered a call to Smart Road in reference to identity theft. A complainant stated an unknown person had accessed his Social Security number and opened a credit card account using his number. The transactions were taken from his bankcard. Investigation continues.
June 12, answered a call to Vernon Williams Road in reference to suspicious item found. A local farmer was putting up a fence and found a “Shake & Bake Clandestine” methamphetamine lab. The drug investigator responded to the scene and collected the item to be destroyed.
June 13, answered a call to Old Surrency Road in reference to a vehicle fire. The driver and a passenger of the vehicle noticed flames coming up from the backseat. The Surrency Fire Department responded and was able to extinguish the fire.
June 13, answered a call to David Carter Road in reference to threats. The complainant stated a subject entered his residence without knocking and pulled a knife on him and threatened him. The subject left the residence before officers arrived. The complainant was advised of legal action that could be taken.
June 13, answered a call to V P Lynch Road in reference to a fight, which led to the arrest of William Andrew Smith, 24, of Baxley. Smith was charged with disorderly conduct. The juvenile involved was released to a parent.
June 13, answered a call to South Holton Street in reference to a theft. The complainant stated a family member borrowed his phone and would not return it to him and wants to press charges. The complainant was advised on legal procedure to press charges.
June 14, answered a call to Bass Reef Road in reference to a runaway juvenile. The juvenile was found with a family member.
June 14, Answered a call to Milton Sellers Road/Graham in reference to a home invasion. The complainant stated she heard a male and female voice in her attic. The deputies checked the attic and found it to be empty and secure. No signs of entry were found and residence was secured. Nothing appeared to be missing from the residence. Investigation continues.
June 14, answered a call to Branch Road in reference to damage to property. The complainant stated an unknown subject drove a vehicle through his gate doing damage to the gate and fence.
June 15, answered a call to Altamaha Elementary School in reference to a burglary. The surveillance camera’s revealed four male teenagers had entered the school and went into several of the classrooms. Nothing appeared to be missing or damaged.
June 15, answered a call to Tanglewood Drive in reference to a dog problem. The complainant stated her neighbor’s pit bull dog has been attempting to attack her rabbits. The neighbor stated she will get rid of the pit bull dog.
June 15, answered a call to Buckhead Road in reference to a domestic dispute, which led to the arrest of Johnny Mack Bryant, Sr., 48, of Baxley and Johnny Eugene Bryant, 22, of Baxley. Both subjects were charged with simple battery.
June 16, answered a call to Ellis Jones Road in reference to trespassing. The complainant stated a subject that had been previously been advised not to come on his property was back on the property. The subject left the property before officer arrived.
June 16, answered a call to Ellis Jones Road, which led to the arrest of Jerry Ray Tomberlin, 32, of Baxley. Tomberlin was charged with disorderly conduct.
June 16, answered a call to Holt Rentz Road in reference to a domestic dispute. The complainant stated she and her estranged husband had an altercation involving a cell phone. The complainant was advised of legal action she could pursue. The husband had left the residence before officer arrived.
June 16, answered a call to Bowen Road in reference to a civil matter. A complainant and a previous employer had a dispute over his working tools that his employer would not return to him. The employer stated he made the complainant a loan and would return the tools when the loan was paid.
June 16, answered a call to Philippi Church Road in reference to a theft of a vehicle. The complainant stated a subject took his vehicle without his permission and would not return it. The vehicle was entered into GCIC records and a warrant was secured for the arrest of the subject/offender.
June 17, answered a call to Heath Street in reference to a house fire. It was revealed the attic fan caught on fire. The Baxley Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire. No occupants were in the residence.
June 17, answered a call to Avery Lane in reference to harassment. The complainant, 17, stated while working at a local blueberry business, a man age twenty nine years old had made unwanted advances toward her several times. The complainant and a family member were advised of legal action that could be taken.
June 17, answered a call to Nail Mobley Road in reference to damage to property, which led to a warrant being secured for the arrest of Jason Ray Baxley, 38, of Baxley, for criminal damage to property in the second degree.
June 18, answered a call to Gardina Circle, which led to the arrest of Katie Lynn Morehouse, 17, of Baxley. Morehouse was charged with disorderly conduct.
June 18, answered a call to Highway 144 in reference to an abandoned vehicle. The vehicle was left in the roadway with no one around and no lights. The vehicle was towed for citizen’s safety.
June 18, answered a call to Highway 121/Surrency in reference to attempted overdose. The victim was found breathing, but not responding by a friend. The victim was transported to Appling ER for treatment.
