Eugene Stone, Sr.
Eugene Stone, Sr., 64, of Hazlehurst, died suddenly Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Jeff Davis Hospital. Mr. Stone was born Dec. 29, 1946 in Appling County to the late Vernon Stone and the late Jessie Brown Stone. He was employed with Hazlehurst Mills and was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Stone of Hazlehurst; three daughters and sons-in-law, Amy and Billy Hughes of Hazlehurst, Judy “Dinkie” and Stacy Swanson of Fitzgerald and Connie and Eugene Hand of Hazlehurst; three sons, Eugene “PeeWee” and Tonya Stone of Hazlehurst, Donnie and Michelle Stone of Effie, LA and Richard and Susan Smith of Hazlehurst; step-children, Melissa Hall, Jimbo and Gail Davis and Kelly Davis, all of Hazlehurst; two sisters, Mary O’Berry of Hazlehurst and Linda Allday of Vidalia; brothers, G. W. Stone of Tifton, Vernon Stone and Steve Stone, both of Baxley; 21 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 9 in the chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home with the Rev. Royce Hulett officiating. Interment followed in Zoar Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Josh Stone, Colby Hughes, Jake Hughes, Kyle Hutto, Zachary Hall and Clay Swanson.
Arrangements were under the direction of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home in Hazlehurst.
