Ruby Brantley Bland, 92, died Friday, May 27, 2011 in the Dublinair Nursing Home in Dublin. Mrs. Bland was born Sept. 30, 1918 in Jeff Davis County to the late Lott Warren Brantley, Sr. and the late Lilly Herrington Brantley. She was a member of Dunn Memorial Baptist Church. Mrs. Bland was preceded in death by her husband, Garland B. Bland; a stepmother, Alice “Doll” Herrington Brantley and three sisters, Gertrude B. Collins, Opal B. Ray and Inez Fleming.
Survivors include two sisters, Lilly Maude and Max Newman of Hazlehurst and Ethel Mae Hutcheson of Waycross; two brothers, L. W. Jr. and Patsy Brantley and James and Willie Mae Brantley, all of Hazlehurst; a foster daughter, Faye Tomberlin Byars of Dublin; several nieces and nephews and a special great-nephew, Jeffrey Tomberlin and wife, Barbara, also survive.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 29 in the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with the Revs. Max Newham and Walter Langdon officiating. Interment followed in Satilla Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Jeff Davis County.
Active pallbearers were Larry Brantley, Rob Stone, David Summerall, Jimmy Ray, Jerry Hallman and Glenn Kemp.
Honorary pallbearers were all family and friends in attendance.
Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
