The Appling County Pirate Baseball Team jumped out to an early lead on Jenkins and captured an 8-0 victory on Friday.
With five runs in the first three innings, the Appling County Pirates varsity left no doubt about the eventual outcome. An error, an RBI single by Cody Thomas, and an RBI single by Jeremy Norris during the first inning supplied the early offense for the Pirates. Mason Parker paced the Pirates at the plate. Parker went 2-3, drove in one and scored two runs. Stacy Davis kept contact to a minimum, striking out eight Jenkins batters. The Pirate pitcher tossed four and two-third innings of shutout ball and allowed only two hits. After posting two runs in the third, the Pirates again scored two in the fourth. In the third, the local squad scored on a fielder’s choice, bringing home Parker. Parker started the inning with a double, scoring Will Shumans.
The Pirates will play Islands High School on March 3, starting at 6:00 p.m. On Friday, March 6, the Pirates will travel to Johnson High School in Savannah to play against the Atom Smashers.
