The following are highlights of incidents that were handled by officers of the Baxley Police Department.
On April 30 at approximately 4:00 a.m., met with a resident at a Fair Street address in reference to a domestic dispute. On arrival the residents told officers that they had got into an argument that turned into a gun being pulled and the female resident being threatened. Arrested in connection with this incident was Norris Gibbs, Jr., 54, of Surrency, on charges of one count each of pointing a pistol/gun at another and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

April 30 at approx. 6:30 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the LPC officer whom had a subject detained for taking some items without paying for them. Arrested in connection with this incident was Lawanna Dianne Gibson, 56, of Glennville, on charges of one count theft by shoplifting.
May 1 at approx. 4:35 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the LPC officer who had two subjects detained for taking some items without paying for them. Arrested in connection with this incident was Christy Mae Bohannon, 33, and Shanee Whitney Johnson, 20, both of Baxley, on charges of one count of theft by taking.
May 1 an arrest was made in connection with the April 27 theft from City of Baxley Public Works building in which a quantity of metal and pumps were stolen. Arrested in connection with this incident was Robert Wheeler, 39, of Baxley, on charges of theft by taking.
May 2 at approx. 10:07, officers stopped a vehicle for a taillight violation. As a result of the stop, officers discovered that the driver did not have a driver’s license. While officers were attempting to secure the driver for transport, he yanked away from the officers and attempted to flee, only to be taken into custody without incident. While securing the driver’s vehicle a quantity of pills was seized. After the driver was transported to the jail a small amount of marijuana was seized from the driver’s person, during a pat down. Arrested in connection with this incident was Clarence Morris, 51, of Baxley, on charges of one count each of driving while unlicensed, tail light violation, obstruction of a police officer, crossing a guard line with drugs, possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.
May 3 at approx. 4:22 a.m., responded to a call to the Smokehouse Café in reference to property damage. On arrival officers observed the front windowpane busted out of the business. The owner was notified and the building secured.
May 9 at approx. 3:00 p.m., responded to a call to the Chevron Express in reference to a theft and harassment. On arrival officers met with the clerk who related to them that a subject had got some gas and not paid for it. When the clerk inquired to the subject he verbally harassed her with his speech in a sexual manner. After investigation into the incident, Randy Glenn Harris, 41, of Baxley, was charged with one count theft by taking in this incident.
May 12 at approx. 11:45 a.m., answered a call to the Baxley Post Office in reference to a counterfeit bill. On arrival officers met with a worker who told them they had received a $10.00 dollar bill, serial no. JB34034773A from a customer who came in to the post office to mail a package, and upon checking it, found it to be counterfeit. The bill was tagged and will be forward to the secret service for follow up.
May 13 at approx. 11:43 a.m., answered a call to Citi Trends in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the clerk, and several subjects she had detained. Investigation revealed that one of the subjects had concealed some items without paying for them. Arrested in connection with this theft was Selisa Lashae Butler, 19, of Glennville, on charges of one count of theft by shoplifting.
May 17 at approx. 7:08 a.m., answered a call to Knight’s Saw and Marine in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the owner who related that sometime during the night person(s) unknown
entered a fenced in area and removed two lawn mowers. One was a Seag 61inch 27HP zero turn mower with serial number F5600111, model STT6N-27C11, and the other was a Husqvarna 46 inch zero turn mower with serial number 011411C001060, model RZ24623. Both mowers have been entered on the GCIC computer network as stolen.
May 17 at approx. 7:37 a.m., answered a call to Mobile Concrete in reference to property damage and a theft. On arrival officers met with a complainant who related to them that sometime during the night person(s) unknown drove through a locked gate, damaging the gates and fence and removed an 8 x 16 utility trailer. The trailer is black in color, and was displaying a GA tag TL8057Q with serial number 511YU16214B561215. The trailer is a double axel with tow jacks and ramps, and has white spoke rims. The trailer has been entered on the GCIC computer network as stolen.
May 18 at approx. 11:50 a.m., met with the owner at Abundant Life Pharmacy in reference to a counterfeit bill. On arrival the owner told officers that they had received a $10 dollar bill that was counterfeit. The bill had a serial number of IF25351580C. The bill was tagged and will be forwarded to the secret service for follow up.
May 18 at approx. 5:12 p.m., met with a resident at a Bay Street address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that persons unknown had entered his home and stole two Dell laptop computers, one Acer laptop computer, one Wii gaming system and one Play Station II.
May 19 at approx. 1:03 p.m., met with a resident at a West Allen Street address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had entered the home and removed two stoves, one meter, one refrigerator, one central air conditioner unit and several wires throughout the house.
May 19 at approx. 9:08 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival the officers met with the LPC officer whom had a subject detained for taking some items without paying for them. Arrested in connection with this incident was Ladonna Denise Hill, 30, of Oak Grove, LA, on charges of one count of theft by shoplifting.
May 20 at approx. 7:49 a.m., responded to a fight call at the Appling County High School. On arrival officers met with the principal in reference to two students being in a fight. While officers were patting the students down before transport, a small white container was seized with eleven rocks of crack cocaine and a razor blade inside it from the person of one of the students. Arrested in connection with this incident was Lionel A. Jackson, 18, of Baxley, on charges of one count D.O.C. fighting, giving false statements to law enforcement, weapons at school and possession of controlled substance. Also cited for D.O.C. fighting was Donnell Antoine McMillan, 18, of Surrency.
May 20 at approx. 6:59 p.m., met with a resident at a San Marco Drive address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that while she was gone, person(s) unknown entered his home and removed a hair clipper set, some cologne, some clothes and a pair of Nike shoes.
May 21 at approx. 9:54 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival the officers met with the LPC officer whom had a subject detained for taking some items without paying for them. Arrested in connection with this incident was Latasha Sarda Johnson, 24, of Baxley, on charges of one count theft by shoplifting.
May 21 at approx. 4:30 p.m., met with a complainant at a Bay Street address in reference to a domestic argument turned physical. Arrested in connection with this incident was Alejandro Galban Martinez, 30, of Baxley, on charges of one count battery.
May 25 at approx. 11:00 a.m., met with a complainant at Merle Norman’s in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had lifted her wallet. Investigation revealed that the complainant’s credit card had been arrested by the Glynn County Police Department. Arrested in connection with this theft was Barbara Landers, 42, of Nicholls, on charges of one count theft by taking.
May 25 at approx. 4:07 p.m., met with a complainant at Badcock Home Furnishings in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had removed a GA tag from off of the company’s 2005 Ford truck. The license plate number is BVL6541, and it has been entered on the GCIC computer network as stolen.
May 26 at approx. 4:00 p.m., met with a complainant at Flash Foods in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had lifted her wallet in Hazlehurst and came to Baxley and used her debit card. Investigation lead to another charge on Barbara Landers, 42, of Nicholls, charging her with one count of financial transaction card fraud.
May 28 at approx. 10:05 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the LPC officer whom had a subject detained for taking some items without paying for them. Arrested in connection with this incident was Janet Crapps Spell, 50, of Baxley, on charges of one count theft by shoplifting.
May 29 at approx. 8:15 p.m., met with a resident at an Edgerton Street address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had entered his home and removed one gold Jeff Davis County 2009 class ring, with a ruby stone and with a deer on one side, three MP3 players, one lime green Ipod, one Nikon digital camera and one MB3 cell phone.
May 31 at approx. 9:04 a.m., answered a call to Fast Trac in reference to some counterfeit money. On arrival the clerk told officers that they had taken in eight $20.00 dollar bills during the day, and upon checking them, discovered them to be counterfeit and all with the same serial number, IL84570519 B. The bills were tagged and will be forwarded to the secret service for follow up.
May 31 at approx. 10:14 p.m., answered call to McDonald’s in reference to counterfeit money. On arrival the clerk told officers that a subject had pulled through the drive-thru window and attempted to pay for the meal with a $20.00 dollar bill, quick action by the clerk discovered the bill to be counterfeit and when she confronted the subject he drove off.
Chief Godfrey would like the public to be on alert for counterfeit money that is currently circulating in our area. If you are suspicious and should come in contact with some counterfeit bills, please contact the Baxley Police Department, the Appling County Sheriff’s Office, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation or the Altamaha Drug Task Force as soon as possible.
