Sheriff Benny Deloach would like to report the following activity of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office.
Jan. 30, answered a call to the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home in reference to runaway juveniles. Two female juveniles ran away from home, but were later located by deputies. The DJJ was notified and advised no legal action would be taken. The juveniles were left in the custody of their supervisor until the DFACS contacted them.

Jan. 30, answered a call to Phillipi Church Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated his pump was missing from his well that he had just had installed a few weeks prior. An investigation revealed the well company that installed the pump repossessed it due to being given a bad check for payment.
Feb. 1, answered a call to Acorn Lane in reference to a prowler. The complainant stated a subject came to her residence trying to open the door and when he realized people were inside he fled. The complainant named possible suspects. Investigation continues.
Feb. 1, answered a call to George Craven Road in reference to an unruly subject, which led to the arrest of Damian Allen Griffin, 18, of Baxley. Griffin was charged with possession of alcoholic beverage below legal age.
Feb. 1, answered a call to Piney Bluff Road in reference to a domestic dispute. A girlfriend and a boyfriend had a verbal dispute. No signs of physical abuse were noted to either party.
Feb. 1, answered a call to Old Surrency Road/Surrency in reference to trespassing. The complainant stated a subject was seen on her property and she does not want the known subject on her property. The subject was advised to stay off the property and he agreed to do so.
Feb. 2, answered a call to Acorn Lane in reference to threats. A complainant stated several people came to his yard and made threats toward him and left.
Feb. 2, answered a call to Ellis Road, which led to the arrest of William James Mobley, 43, of Baxley. Mobley was charged with public drunkenness.
Feb. 2, a complainant came to the Appling Co. Sheriff’s Office to report threats via computer. The complainant stated subjects had made threats toward her from Facebook.
Feb. 2, answered a call to Cook Street in reference to a domestic dispute. A complainant stated two family members were drunk and one of the subjects had hit her in the nose. The deputies were unable to locate the offenders.
Feb. 2, answered a call to Southeastern Cotton Gin in reference to a fire. The complainant stated the cotton seeds combusted and began to burn. They sealed the warehouse up by closing all the doors, which smothered the fire. The Fourth District and Red Oak Fire Departments responded and sprayed all the hot spots.
Feb. 3, answered a call to Spring Branch Church Road in reference to damage to property. The complainant stated unknown person(s) had tried to gain entry to his camper trailer by trying to pry open the door. Investigation continues.
Feb. 3, a routine traffic stop on Arnold Road led to the arrest of Carla Renee Shepard, 28, of Baxley. Shepard was charged with DUI/drugs, endangering child under the age of 14 while DUI, and failure to maintain lane.
Feb. 3, answered a call to Brenda Kaye Yawn Road in reference to threats. The complainant/babysitter called a child’s mother to come pick up a sick child, and the mother became irate and made threats against her.
Feb. 3, answered a call to Poole Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated an unknown subject took two batteries, a quick hitch for a John Deere, and two filler plows. Items taken were valued at approximately $600.00.
Feb. 3, answered a call to Nails Ferry Road in reference to a one-vehicle accident. The driver of the vehicle left the shoulder of the road and ran over two mailboxes and landed in the ditch. The driver left the scene of the accident. The vehicle was towed by a local wrecker service. Investigation continues.
Feb. 3, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report false imprisonment. The employee of a local Hospice Care, went to a home to do a home visit. After being let in the home she was told the patient was not there by a male subject in the home. She was then held against her will and not allowed to leave. An investigation led to the arrest of Joseph Ashley King, 38, of Baxley. King was charged with false imprisonment.
Feb. 4, answered a call to Blackshear Highway in reference to harassment. The complainant stated a female subject continues to harass him at his work and home. The complainant was advised of legal action he could pursue.
Feb. 4, the Appling County Sheriff’s Office inmate work detail was working on Zoar Road when an inmate fled. A short time later Justin Scott Harper, 28, of Baxley, was seen in the area of Daisy Lane and turned himself in without incident. Harper was charged with escape.
Feb. 4, answered two calls to Poor Robin Road in reference to threats. The complainants stated a subject was in the neighborhood and highway threatening people with a pitchfork. The responding officers scanned the area for subject, but was unable to locate.
Feb. 4, answered a call to a Golden Isles West in reference to a theft by deception. An employee of a local car dealership stated a subject paid for a vehicle with a check that was insufficient funds and in the meantime traded the vehicle to another dealership in another town. Investigation continues.
Feb. 4, answered a call to Golden Isles West in reference to a theft. A complainant stated a vehicle was repossessed and the vehicle was stolen from a company impound yard. This case has been resolved.
Feb. 4, answered a call to Oscar Tippins Road in reference to a possible child abuse. No marks were seen on child in question. The complainant and children left the residence. The DFACS was notified.
Feb. 5, answered a call to Phillipi Church Road in reference to a theft. The complainant stated his 2009 Yamaha Grissley four-wheeler and 16ft. D2E trailer was stolen from his property. Investigation continues.
Feb. 5, answered a call to Black Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated stolen from their property was a Craftsman toolbox with tools, and a floor jack. Investigation continues.
Feb. 5, answered a call to Dyal Road in reference to criminal trespass. A complainant stated a suspicious person was seen in his shop. The complainant stated he saw this on his surveillance video camera. Investigation continues.
