Sheriff Benny Deloach would like to report the following activity of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office.
A 2004 Ford Explorer reported stolen on January 15, 2015 from Scott Drive was recovered and led to the arrest of Yoands Chavez, 28, of Baxley. Chavez was charged with theft by taking.
Jan. 15, answered a call to Pine Street Extension in reference to entering auto/theft. A complainant stated someone broke into her vehicle and stole two speakers and an amp. Investigation continues.
Jan. 16, allegations of child molestation on January 3 led to the arrest of George Brandon Mims, 25, of Hazlehurst. Mims was charged with aggravated child molestation.
Jan. 16, answered a call to Morris Farm in reference to a fight. Both subjects stated they had been in an altercation and were advised if they wanted to press charges against each other what legal action they could take.
Jan. 16, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report a missing person. The complainant stated her husband had been missing for several days. Investigation made contact with friends of missing person and they knew of his whereabouts.
Jan. 16, a routine traffic stop on Highway 15 led to the arrest of Rusty David Beckworth, 44, of Baxley. Beckworth was charged with VGCSA, driving while license revoked and brake lights and turn signals required.
Jan. 17, answered a call to Patterson Road in reference to a house fire. Victim stated she put a piece of wood in the stove then fell asleep and woke up finding a fire had started on top of the pipe that goes out of the house. The Baxley Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire.
Jan. 17, answered a call to Campground Road in reference to a dog bite victim. The complainant stated while jogging two dogs came from a subjects yard and attacked him on his legs. The complainant was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The owner of the dogs was notified and dogs are to be kept confined for a period of time. Also owner of the dog was notified if the dogs are considered to be dangerous certain restrictions will be required if he wants to keep the dogs.
Jan. 18, answered a call to Manning Williams Road in reference to a burglary. The complainant stated missing from her residence is her HP Laptop computer. The Complainant named a possible suspect and investigation continues.
Jan. 18, a routine traffic stop on Doc McTier Road led to the arrest of Deontae Waymon Shaw, 23, of Baxley. Shaw was charged with VGCSA, DUI, and driving while license withdrawn.
Jan. 18, answered a call to Philippi Church Road in reference to a burglary. The complainant stated a family member came into her residence stole jewelry, money, check book and her debit card. Investigation continues.
Jan. 18, answered a call to Hatch Parkway in reference to a domestic dispute. A complainant stated she and her boyfriend had gotten into a verbal dispute, which led to an altercation. The boyfriend had left the residence before officer arrived. The complainant stated she did not want to press charges.
Jan. 18, answered a call to West Tollison Street in reference to a suspicious subject, which led to the arrest of Oscar Lamar Jackson, 42, of Baxley. Jackson was charged with possession of drug related object by the Appling County Sheriff’s Office and additional charges were made by the Baxley Police Department.
Jan. 18, answered a call to Central Drive in reference to damage to property. A complainant stated a subject returned a borrowed bicycle and cut the tires on the bicycle.
