The Pirates will travel to Elberton to face Region 8-AAA third seed Elbert County (8-3) on Friday, November 21 in the second round. Elbert County defeated Region 7-AAA second seed Lumpkin County (5-6) 28-18 in the first round. According to the Georgia High School Football Historians Association website this will be the first matchup between the Pirates and Blue Devils.
Other Region 1-AAA Playoff Action
All three of the other Region 1-AAA teams also advanced to the second round of the AAA State Playoffs with top seed Cook County (9-2) defeating 2-AAA fourth seed Central Macon 42-14, second seed Pierce County (9-2) winning over 2-AAA third seed Jackson (7-4) 49-21 and third seed Dodge County (9-2) defeating 2-AAA second seed Westside, Macon (9-2) 14-3. In the second round Cook will host 8-AAA second seed Hart County (10-1), Pierce will host 8-AAA fourth seed Oconee County (8-3) and Dodge will travel to 8-AAA top seed Jefferson (11-0).
Scoring recap
Peach County scored on their opening possession on a three-yard touchdown run and after adding the extra point the Pirates trailed 0-7 with 8:34 remaining in the first quarter.
The Pirates were able to tie the score on a blocked punt by Devon Moore and recovery by Larry Griner. The extra point was converted by Adalfo Martinez to tie the score 7-7 at the 2:50 mark in the second quarter.
The Pirates took the lead on a 21-yard touchdown pass from Jason Dhaliwal to Brandon Jones and with the extra point led 14-7 with 34.9 seconds remaining in the second quarter.
