The following are highlights of incidents that were handled by officers of the Baxley Police Department over the past several days.
On Sept. 1 at approximately 3:10 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the LPC officer whom had a person detained for taking some items without paying for them. Charged in connection with this incident was Barbara Leigh Tomberlin, 31, of Baxley, on one count theft by shoplifting and one count probation violation.
Police share recent activity
Sept. 1 at approx. 7:02 p.m., responded to a call at a Donnie Lane address in reference to property damage. On arrival the complainant told officers that her children’s father had come up and attempted to do damage to her vehicle as she was pulling away from the apartment. After an investigation, Nickolas M. Swain, 35, of Baxley, was charged with one count criminal trespass in connection with this incident.
Sept. 2 at approx. 9:30 a.m., answered a call to a Brandon Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had removed the families pet, a blue heeler dog, black and grey in color, and was approximately three months old. The dog had a red shock collar and answers to the name of “Bucket.”
Sept. 7 at approx. 00:39, answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a suspicious person. On arrival officers met with the LPC officer who told the officers that a person in the store was acting very suspicious and had been in the store for a long period of time. The person was detained and as a result several items were found concealed in a bag that the person was carrying, that hadn’t been paid for. Charged in connection with this incident was Christa U. Miller, 45, of Hazlehurst, on one count theft by shoplifting.
Sept. 7 at approx. 12:35, met with a resident at a West Allen Street address in reference to a theft that already occurred. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had entered her home and removed eight-nine rings. The rings are all size 12. The following is a description on some of the rings; one had a ruby setting, with a 1-carat diamond, one had a gold band with 3 diamonds on it, one was a ruby diamond, one was a 1-carat blue topaz princess ring and one was a pyramid diamond ring, and had a dent in the band.
Sept. 8 at approx. 4:59 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the LPC office who told them that they had identified some persons that had committed an earlier theft and they had been back in the store committing another. After an investigation the following person(s) were charged in connection with an incident on Aug. 30 and the one on Sept. 8. Charged were April Moore, 24, of Baxley, on two counts theft by shoplifting and Franklin Samuel Thornton, 28, of Baxley, for one count of theft by shoplifting.
Sept. 11 at approx. 00:53, stopped a vehicle for tail light violation. As a result of the stop and a consent search, a small amount of marijuana was seized. Charged in connection with this incident was Dominique L. Mitchell, 23, of Alma, on one count each of tail light violation and possession of marijuana.
Sept. 11 at approx. 4:05 p.m., answered a call to Appling HealthCare System in reference to a fight. On arrival a complainant told officers that she had been confronted by another female who started a verbal dispute that turned into a physical altercation. After an investigation, Tonya Renee Harrelson, 40, of Baxley, was charged with one count of simple battery in connection with this incident.
Sept. 12 at approx. 12:16, answered a call to an address on Northwood Drive in reference to a domestic dispute. On arrival a complainant told officers that she had gotten into a verbal dispute with a relative that led to her being shoved against a wall and a door being slammed on her arm. After an investigation, Karen Ray Kersey, 49, was charged with one count simple battery in connection with this incident.
Sept. 12 at approx. 5:53 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to some earlier thefts, which occurred on Sept. 4. On arrival officers learned that the offenders that had shoplifted on the 4th were back in the store and taken a lot of items and left without paying for them and they had left in a silver in color Honda Accord. Officers spotted the vehicle, where it was stopped, and numerous items were recovered that had been stolen from the store. After an investigation the stolen items were returned to Wal-Mart, and the following persons were charged in connection with this incident. Laportia Mishon Johnson, 29, of Dublin on two counts of theft by shoplifting and one count each of giving false name, and obstruction of a police officer, also charged was Eric Antoin Jackson, 21, of Dublin, on two counts theft by shoplifting.
Sept. 14 at approx. 1:45 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the LPC officer who told them that a person had took some items without paying for them, went outside and put them into a silver Nissan Versa, and then left in a hurry. After an investigation, Danny Joe Wertz, 50, of Alma, was charged with one count theft by shoplifting in connection with this incident.
Sept. 16 at approx. 5:40 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the LPC officer whom had a person detained for taking some items without paying for them. Charged in this incident was Chamirria Jones, 17, of Baxley, for one count theft by shoplifting. Sept. 17 at approx. 8:45 p.m., answered a call to Huddle House in reference to a suspicious person sitting in a car in the lot. On arrival officers approached the vehicle to check on the driver’s welfare when they noticed strong odors of alcoholic beverages and marijuana coming from the vehicle. After further checking, the driver, James Kyle Fennell, 21, of Baxley, was charged with one count each of driving under the influence and possession of marijuana.
Sept. 20 at approx. 6:28 p.m., answered a call to West Wood Apartments in reference to some found property. On arrival officers met with a complainant who told them that a water bong smoke pipe had been left in one of the vacant apartments. The pipe was seized and placed in evidence. Anyone who has lost or either misplaced their bong is urged to contact the police department, where an office will be happy to assist them.
