Deputies make arrest, burglaries of three businesses solved
Sheriff Benny Deloach reports that the burglaries of three local businesses that occurred in the months of August and September have been solved. Investigations have led to the arrest of Robert Wendell Smith, 43, of Hazlehurst, on September 25. Smith was charged with three counts of burglary in the second degree.
The following are additional reports of the activity of the deputies of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office.
Sept. 17, answered a call to Henry Griffin Road in reference to an assault, which led to the arrest of Jessica Bullard, 35, of Baxley. Bullard was charged with simple battery.
Sept. 18, Answered a call to Valine Miles Road in reference to a theft of a push mower and a riding mower. On September 22 the same subjects were found to have burglarized a home on BuckHead Road taking several items. Investigation led to the arrest of Brandy Jane Copeland, 24, of Baxley, and Gregory Dale Love, 29, of Baxley. Both were charged with burglary and theft by taking. Investigation continues and additional arrests will be forth coming.
Sept. 19, answered a call to Red Oak Road in reference to a theft. An employee of a business found several aluminum rims from a semi-trailer, and a 150-gallon fuel tank missing. Items taken were valued at $4,700.00. Investigation continues.
Sept. 21, answered a call to Hatch Parkway in reference to a dog problem. The complainant stated her neighbor’s dogs continue to come on her property.
Sept. 21, answered a call to Cleland Lane in reference to a theft. The complainant stated batteries were taken from two of her vehicles. Investigation continues.
Sept. 21, answered a call to Piney Grove Church Road/Bristol in reference to harassment/trespassing. A complainant stated a male subject continues to come on her property after putting up trespassing signs. The complainant was advised of legal action that could be taken.
Sept. 21, a complainant came to the Appling County Sheriff’s Office to report a possible child molestation. The complainant stated her fifteen-year-old daughter had been with a thirty-year-old male and forced to have sex. Investigation by Appling County Sheriff’s Office and GBI Agency, led to the arrest of Rosember Gonzalez Perez, 30, of Baxley. Perez was charged with child molestation.
Sept. 22, answered a call to Russell Road in reference to a domestic dispute. A complainant stated she and her husband had an altercation, and wants him to stay away from her. The complainant was advised of legal action that could be taken.
Sept. 22, a routine traffic stop on Nails Ferry Road led to the arrest of April Nicole Moore, 24, of Baxley. Moore was charged with speeding, driving while license withdrawn and V.G.C.S.A.
Sept. 22, the Appling EMS along with Appling Co. Deputies answered a call to Lawanna Drive in reference to an unresponsive person. A family member found George Miller, 57, unresponsive. Coroner George O’Quinn was notified, responded and found Miller to have died of natural causes.
Sept. 22, answered a call to Bell Drive in reference to shots fired with person being shot. Upon arrival of deputies it was determined a black male had been shot several times inside his residence. The victim was transported to Appling ER for treatment. Further investigation led to the arrest of Vernon Bennett, 37, of Baxley. Bennett was charged with aggravated assault.
Sept. 22, answered a call to Holt Rentz Road in reference to a domestic dispute. A complainant and a family member had a verbal dispute, which led to a confrontation. The family member was transported to ER due to self-inflicted wounds.
Sept. 22, answered a call to Ben Carter Road in reference to a domestic dispute. A complainant stated her boyfriend continues to argue and fight with her.
Sept. 23, answered a call to John Lewis Lane in reference to harassment. A complainant stated a subject continues to call their residence after being told several times not to call.
Sept. 23, a routine traffic stop on U.S. 1 led to the arrest of Thaddeus Lynn Russell, 46, of Baxley. Russell was charged with tag light required, driving while license suspended, adult seatbelt, possession of marijuana, giving false information to law enforcement and possession of drug related object.
Sept. 23, answered a call to Hutcheson Road in reference to an unresponsive subject. A family member found Cecilla Ramsey, 56, of Baxley, unresponsive. The Appling EMS, and deputies responded. The coroner was notified and stated no foul play was suspected.
Sept. 25, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report a theft. The complainant stated unknown person(s) entered his Chevrolet pickup and took his Inter Arms rifle valued at $500.00. The gun was entered into GCIC records. Investigation continues.
Sept. 25, answered a call to Bradley Road in reference to a burglary. A complainant stated unknown subject entered her residence, and took monies from her purse. Investigation continues.
