David “Doodlebug” Carter, 80, of Surrency, died Saturday, August 9, 2014, at the Pavilion.
Carter was born November 10, 1933, in Baxley to the late Robert Carter and the late Elma Carter of Surrency. He served his country in the United States Army and retired from Georgia Department of Transportation as a civil engineer. He was owner and operator of Carters Service Station. He was a lifetime resident of Appling County.
Survivors include two daughters, Darlene (Alan) Schnieber of Baxley and Tammy Carter of Savannah; one sister, Janice Rozar of Baxley and one brother, Tim Carter of Swainsboro. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Krista Stone Carter of Baxley and Keith Passmore of Savannah; and two great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by two brothers, Nathan Carter and Joe Carter.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, August 12 at 11:00 a.m. at Surrency City Cemetery with the Rev, Carl Rowell officiating.
Visitation was held Monday evening, August 11,6:00-8:00 p.m., at Swain Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Paul Carter, Stan Carter, Jeffrey Carter, Clay Sharpe, Danny Carter and Robert Rozar.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
