There could be one person in Georgia loving the current situation in our country. I’ve often heard people refer to former President Jimmy Carter as being one of the worst leaders in our country’s history. I guess there could be some actuality to these comments since he was a one-term president. But I’d bet Carter could take some solace in knowing he may not be considered the worst president in the history of our country.
Our current president appears to be well on his way to earning that title, and the sad part is that President Barack Obama seems impervious. To date (remember we still have two and a half more years) this presidency will be known for scandals, foreign policy (or lack thereof) and ObamaCare (the Affordable Care Act).
In taking a look at the scandals, we have witnessed Benghazi, IRS, Fast and Furious, healthcare.gov, Executive Branch overreach, and, and, and, ad nauseam. George W. Bush had the where are the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and inhumane interrogation practices and Clinton had the Monica Lewinski scandal and rumors of other infidelities, but I can’t recall a president during my lifetime having as many scandals surrounding a presidency as the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. has on record to date. I’d also like to point out that President Obama vowed to be the most transparent president in U.S. history. He may be known as the most translucent president in our country’s history, providing just enough information to give the appearance of being transparent. If you look at the IRS scandal and even Benghazi scandal, the information put forth to the American people has been anything but transparent. I’d call it opaque.
How about the current state of President Obama’s foreign policy? Many believe it has become laughable and national polls appear to reflect likewise. Russian President Vladimir Putin continues to antagonize the U.S. and its allies. There appears to be growing tension between President Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the closest ally the U.S. has in the Middle East. Iraq is being overrun by terrorist thugs that have one goal in mind and that is to see death come to the U.S. and its allies. However, there is one bright spot for President Obama, he did get Osama bin Laden.
President Obama’s signature legislation, the Affordable Care Act (ACA), has been rife with issues from the outset of the law and has had a hand in dividing our country. First we had Pelosi’s “we will have to pass it to find out what’s inside.” Of course the courts have to decide what’s inside now, case in point, Hobby Lobby. Then came open enrollment and healthcare.gov; yes, that started out great (sarcasm). I guess the good news is that the [supposed nonpartisan] Congressional Budget Office has figured out a way to make ACA look better on paper and the spineless mainstream media take every word from the government these days as truth. It’s kind of the like the diluted unemployment rate numbers we are now seeing or inflation statistics. I can attest firsthand that my family’s insurance premiums have grown and our coverage is not even close to what we had prior to passage of the ACA.
President Obama should take notice of how his presidency is going to be viewed by future generations and possibly try to do something like unite the citizens in this country instead of trying to divide. Some may praise his presidency, but I’ve got a feeling that more will view it as a reckless, leaderless period in our country’s history. But even President Obama, like President Carter, can take some solace…at least he’s still receiving higher polling numbers than Congress. Now that’s entirely another column within itself. When I say “do-nothing” what comes to your mind?
