Time and time again this newspaper has heard complaints about the direction this community is headed. Some are justifiable complaints; some are not. One scuttlebutt we hear is that Appling County strives to be a community of mediocrity. In some ways this may be true of any community, including our community. It is the wish of this newspaper that our community would always strive for excellence in all aspects.
It is refreshing and reassuring that it appears that our community is on the right track. All you have to do is simply take a look around. There are paving and improvement projects in the city of Baxley and across the county taking place currently. Jimmy Swain Stadium is getting a needed facelift that will match our impressive high school facility. The Woody Folsom Dealerships along Highway 341 West are also very impressive and will bring needed jobs to our community.
All of these projects, and many others, are vastly improving the appearance of our community. This is important as it shows visitors, including economic developers, that our community is moving forward.
I will say it again…We are all stakeholders in our community. Let’s promote our community as a progressive and forward-thinking community.
