Velma Barber, 72, died Saturday, January 15, 2011 at The Serenity Place in Dublin. She was born in Polk County, Florida on June 1, 1938 to the late Owen Pitts and the late Nancy Partin Pitts. She had resided in Baxley for the past 29 years. Velma was a homemaker and a member of Ferry Road Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of twenty-nine years, J. D. (John) Barber of Baxley; one daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Joe Kelley of Fairbluff, N.C.; one son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Rita Peacock of Lake Wales, FL; one sister, Margaret Johnson of Lake Wales, FL and five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18 in the chapel of David E. Miles Funeral Home with the Revs. Earnest Dyals and Rick Brown officiating. Interment followed in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Kevin Hardwick, John Barber, Kyle Hardwick, Stacey Mobley, Allen Peacock, Jacob Peacock, Shannon Peacock and James Pollette.
Honorary pallbearers were Jessica Peacock, Kim Mobley, Jeffery Peacock, and all friends in attendance.
Musical selections were rendered by Rev. Earnest Dyal and Rev. Rick Brown.
Arrangements were under the direction of David E. Miles Funeral Home.
