Thomas Gregory Peterson
Thomas Gregory Peterson, 51, died Friday, May 13, 2011 in Appling Healthcare System. Mr. Peterson was born April 17, 1960 in Duplin County, North Carolina, to the late George Thurston and Ellen Taylor Peterson. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church of Toombs County. Peterson was a member of NRA, Gideon’s International and was employed by Southern Company for 29 years where he had received numerous honors and awards.
Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth Ellen Peterson of Orange City, Fla. and Kellie Michelle Peterson of Douglas; one sister, Reba P. Herring of Wallace, N.C. and one brother, Joseph H. Peterson of Burgaw, N.C.; three grandchildren, Layla Yawn, Landon Peterson and Jorja Lomaneck and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 17 in the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with the Rev. Taylor Merritt officiating. Interment followed in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery in Toombs County.
Active pallbearers were Rayford Price, Jones Hart, Edwin Williams, Kevin Parker, Jack Lockwood and Ken Smith.
Honorary pallbearers were members of Providence Baptist Church and friends of Southern Company.
Musical selections were rendered by Ronnie Patton and Ann Merritt.
Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
