Michael D. “Big Mike” Harrison, 41, died on June 24, 2014 at Candler Hospital in Savannah. Born in Baxley, he had lived most of his life in Bulloch County. He was a 1991 graduate of Pinewood Christian Academy. He worked at different jobs after high school including The Greek Shop before obtaining his CDL from Ogeechee Technical College in 2005. He was a truck driver and was the general manager with Suncoast Freight Company. Mike was known for his big personality and his love of people. He always had a joke and a smile on his face. People loved him wherever he went.
Surviving are his son, Cooper Harrison and his mother, Amanda Harrison, of Statesboro; his parents, Emily and Dr. Gary Harrison, of Statesboro; his siblings, Robin (Josh) Axelberd of Suwanee, David (Meghan) Harrison of Dunwoody, Stephen Harrison (Cecilie Fowler) of Statesboro, Rebecca (Michael) Forest of Lawrenceville, and Kathryn Harrison of Norcross; a special friend, Jenni Sapp Griffin and her daughters, Claire and Morgan of Statesboro; his grandmother, Emojean Cooper of Surrency; several nephews also survive.
The visitation was held on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
The funeral service was held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Eason officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Cooper Harrison Educational Fund at Farmers and Merchants Bank, 201 North Main Street, Statesboro, GA 30458.
