William A. “Bill” Black, 66, of Baxley, died Monday, June 16, 2014. Bill was born March 28, 1948 in Bacon County to the late William Issac Black and the late Mildred Boatright Black. He was a member of Red Oak Baptist Church and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp and served in the Vietnam conflict. He was retired from Bell South and a member of CWA Local 3220.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, William Marshall and Sandy Black of Baxley; two granddaughters, Jacie Black and Rylan Black, both of Baxley; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jacqueline and Clint James of Baxley and Katherine and Richard Decker of Chesapeake, VA.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 19 at 11:00 a.m. from Red Oak Baptist Church with the Rev. Ron Ross and the Rev. Lamar Lee officiating. Mr. Black lay in state one hour prior to funeral service.
Interment followed in the church cemetery with Military Honors.
Active pallbearers were Chris Smith, David Black, Robert Decker, Curtis Taylor, Dale Lynch and Donnie Black.
Honorary pallbearers were friends, family of the Huddle House, Bell South/ATT employees and retirees.
Visitation was Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Swain Funeral Home.
Musical selections were rendered by Elaine Edwards, Ellen Black, Pam Williams and Jacie Black.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
