The council unanimously approved the low bid given by Woody Folsom Ford on a 2014 long-wheel base half-ton truck for the street department at a cost of $18,558.00. Three bids were submitted. The two other bidders were: Brannen Motor Company, on a 2014 half-ton LWB truck at a cost of $18,849.00 and Woody Folsom Automotive on a 2014 half-ton LWB truck at a cost of $24,500.00.
Other business
The regular Tuesday meeting of June 24 was rescheduled to the following Thursday on June 26 due to a conflict with the GMA Conference as council members would be attending the conference in Savannah.
City manager report
-Jeff Baxley reported the glitches with the handheld meter reader hopefully have been worked out. Baxley stated He spoke with a representative from Harris Computer and realized the current computer system is 34 years old. The manager has received a ball park estimate in the $60,000-$75,000 range to replace the current computer system.
-He reported the water and sewer project on Jr. High Drive is complete, except for the water/sewer tap at the new senior center.
-Manager Baxley reported the fountain at the Water Works Park is up and running. All motors have been repaired and the work on fountain panels have been completed.
-Manager Baxley announced that Mayor Steve Rigdon received a letter from the GMA Ethics Certification Committee that the City of Baxley meets the qualifications to be re-certified as a Georgia Certified City of Ethics and will receive recognition at the GMA’s annual convention Monday, June 23 in Savannah.
-Manager Baxley reported the TEA project work has begun in the area of Lewis Battery & Electric on Park Avenue. There will be new planters and lighting when the project is completed.
-Manager Baxley commended the Baxley Fire Department and stated he was proud of the manner in which they responded to a call for help from Hazlehurst to assist with the fire at Thompson Hardwood.
