William Henry Stripling departed this life on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at his residence under the care of his brother, Charles, and the staff of Spanish Oaks Hospice. Stripling was born July 6, 1927 to the parentage of Henry and Blanche Stripling in Wayne County. He was married to the late Martha Hollis Stripling.
Henry attended the Baxley Training School in Appling County and was a faithful and loyal member of Harper Chapel United Methodist Church. Henry enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country with honor and distinction.
In addition to his parents and wife, Henry was also preceded in death by sisters, Annie Mae, Louise, Onah Bell, Thelma and Vernell; and brothers, Hosie, Johnny and James.
He is survived by a devoted brother, Charles Stripling of Baxley; one son, Adolph (Rose) Gibbs; one step-son, Samuel Hollis; sister-in-law, Verlene Stripling of Baxley; aunt, Elizabeth Stripling of Baxley and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A homegoing celebration service was held for William Henry Stripling at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, June 7 at Harper Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. C. James Carter presiding. Eulogy was given by the Rev. Vicki Scott. Interment followed in Old Field Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers were family and friends.
Honorary pallbearers were Spanish Oaks Hospice staff.
Musical selections were rendered by Harper Chapel United Methodist Choir.
