The Tri-County Area Fellowship of Christian Athletes Fundraising Banquet was held on March 27 at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. The guest speaker for the event was former Atlanta Falcons Head Coach Dan Reeves. Coach Reeves has participated in more Super Bowls as player/assistant coach/Head Coach than anyone else. He played in two Super Bowls, Super Bowl V and Super Bowl VI and also was an assistant coach in three more, Super Bowl X, Super Bowl XII, Super Bowl XIII, and was Head Coach in four more Super Bowl XXI, Super Bowl XXII and Super Bowl XXIV as the Denver Broncos’ head coach, and Super Bowl XXXIII as the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons. Coach Reeves served as head coach for the Atlanta Falcons from 1997 until 2003.
Counties served by the Tri-County Ga FCA include Appling, Jeff Davis and Bacon. The emcee for the evening was Appling County High School Senior and ACHS FCA Huddle President Lauren Sellers. Throughout the evening, students from Bacon County High School and Jeff Davis County High School shared stories about their involvement in FCA and how their participation in FCA camp has impacted their lives. Coach Bryan Weaver, ACHS Head Boys Basketball Coach and assistant coach of the ACHS Lady Pirate Softball team, shared his experience after attending an FCA Camp last summer with his basketball players. Ann Wildes, former Bacon County Extension Agent, introduced the guest speaker. The evening also included a fabulous meal catered by Gina Lane from Memory Lane Catering as well as a silent auction featuring authentic sports memorabilia.
The FCA Vision is to see the world impacted for Jesus Christ through the influence of athletes and coaches. According to Heather Thompson, Tri-County FCA Representative, “In the past year we have been able to greatly increase the impact that the FCA ministry has had in the Tri-County Area by seeing coaches and teachers participate in a bible study, sending coaches and students to FCA camps, maintaining active campus huddles in all three counties, distributing bibles to athletes, and instilling team chaplains. God has blessed this ministry in such abundance this past year and, thanks to donations and participation at the annual banquet, we are excited to see what He has in store”.
The 2014 Tri-County FCA Leadership Board consists of Michael Beecher, Valerie Drumm, Ricky Gilliard, Nick Overstreet, Rhonda Stone, Heather Thompson, and Regina Tyree.

Don't get me wrong, I am a huge ATL falcon's fan, but I would love to have known those fine looking young men's names as well. What an elite group of young men they appear to be representing Appling County. I am sure their parents would agree?
