Henry Collins, 93, of Dallas, died Monday, April 28, 2014 at his residence. Collins was born September 25, 1920 in Hazlehurst to the late Samuel Clarence and Rebecca Clark Collins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Walker Collins. He was a charter member of Woodlawn Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, was a Sunday school teacher and sang in the church choir. He was a retired auto parts manager for Cromer Chevrolet and was a veteran of the United States Army Air Force.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Billy Grogan of Acworth and Donna and David Englett of Dallas; sister, Arlow Eagleson of St. Augustine, FL; brother and sister-in-law, Corbet and Jean Collins of Lawrence, KS; two grandchildren, Jonathan and wife, Katie Grogan and Katie and husband, Joey Ventre; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 1 in the chapel of Swain Funeral Home. The Rev. Brad Park and the Rev. Rick Brown officiated. Interment followed in Omega Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Joey Collins, Sammy Walton, Glenn Yawn, Kevin Lewis, Eddie Rentz and Al Mercer.
Honorary pallbearers were Mr. and Mrs. Grady Branch, Mr. and Mrs. Darwin Crummey, Dana, Patrick and Caroline Rentz, Brenda Branch, Myrtice Stencil, and Eduardo Zavala.
Musical selections were rendered by Eilene Stone and Jonathan and Katie Grogan.
Remembrances may be made to The American Alzheimer’s Association, Global Missions Project, or Woodlawn Baptist Church.
