District Attorney Jackie Johnson announces that on April 23, 2014, an Appling County jury found 34 year-old Antinto Seantre Johnson of Waycross, guilty of aggravated battery and obstruction of an officer with violence. The charges stem from the April 2012 assault of two correctional officers at Appling County Pre-release Center.
Assistant District Attorney Jan Kennedy presented the case for the State. The defendant was represented in court by the Circuit Defender’s Office. The case was investigated by Lt. Rodney Black with the Appling Pre-release Center. Superior Court Judge E.M. Wilkes, III presided over the trial and sentenced Johnson to twenty-five (25) years, with the first twenty (20) to be served in prison and the remaining five (5) to be served on probation.
The jury was chosen on Monday, April 21 and heard evidence on Wednesday before delivering a verdict in approximately fifteen minutes.
