Palm Sunday was a busy day for B. J. and me. We had a Palm Sunday service at St. Mary’s Magnolia Manor and then drove almost non-stop to Baxley. Little Red was in her best form and sprinted along gracefully. We needed to be at the Baxley First United Methodist Church by 6:00 p.m.
Our long-time friend, the lovely and talented Laurie Jo Upchurch, keeps B. J. and me up to date on her activities. The gifted playwright, dancer, songwriter and singer, although busy as a bee with this year’s production of “Tales from the Altamaha”, had the time to direct and write the script for a hit Palm Sunday service, Watch the Lamb, at the Baxley First United Methodist Church.
A congregation composed of a number of churches in the Baxley area packed the huge First Methodist Church Annex to sit spellbound and watch and listen to the spectacular and inspiring presentation.
The production combined fourteen scenes to present Watch the Lamb. The cast was comprised of the brilliant youth and adults of the participating churches.
The performances were staged at various locations inside the impressive annex.
Scene 1 the Lord of the Dance was an excellent performance by Hanna Beasley, Ema Carter, Maggie Carter, Susan Carter, Mackenzie Harvey, Madison Harvey, Sarah Sutton, Callie Taylor, Triniti Upchurch, and Caylee Youmans.
The Lord of the Dance was followed by scene 2, Journey to Jerusalem, an outstanding enactment, which featured Carlyn Hardwick, Juddson Pearce, Laurie Jo Upchurch, Joseph Switzer and Elijah Switzer.
JoAnne Switzer and Jaden Pearce gave a moving portrayal of The Woman at the Well in scene 3.
Jordan Huddleston and Jimmy Johnson contributed an impressive delivery of The Leper in scene 4
Noah Hardwick did a marvelous depiction of Lazarus in scene 5.
The superb abilities of the splendid cast continued in the next act Jesus Loves Me. Ema Carter, Maggie Carter, Susan Carter, Mackenzie Harvey, Madison Harvey, Buzzy Jones, Cole Taylor and Triniti Upchurch made an amazing demonstration of Jesus Loves Me.
Brandi Harvey did a wonderful arrangement of the Alabaster Box in scene 7.
