The following are highlights of incidents that were handled by officers of the Baxley Police Department over the past several days.
On Apr. 2 at approximately 2:51 a.m., answered a call to a Pine Street address in reference to an unruly person. On arrival the resident told officers that he was confronted by a female who wanted money in turn for sexual favors, which he refused, which led to an argument that turned physical and a scuffle ensued. As a result of the incident the EMS unit was called to the scene, where both parties were treated and released for injuries sustained during the incident. After an investigation, Herman Wilkes, 75, of Baxley, was charged with one count battery, and Andrea Fluker, 37, also of Baxley, was charged with one count each of battery, possession of a drug related object, and prostitution in connection with this incident.
Apr. 5 at approx. 4:09 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the LPC officer who had a person detained for taking some items without paying for them. Arrested in connection with this incident was Tamela Jenkins, 18, of Baxley, on charges of one count each of theft by shoplifting and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Apr. 6 at approx. 8:10 a.m., met with a complainant at the Wash Board Cleaners in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had pried into seven of the dryers, causing severe damage to the machines and removed an undetermined amount of change.
Apr. 7 at approx. 7:44 a.m., met with a resident at a Kenny Lane address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had entered her home and removed a pistol from where she kept it. The pistol is described as a .22 caliber handgun with pink pearl handles.
Apr. 8 at approx. 1:09 p.m., met with a complainant at the ResCare Home Care Center in reference to property damage. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had apparently run into one of the corner posts of the building, causing it to break from its base and lean toward the building.
Apr. 8 at approx. 10:22 a.m., answered a call to Harvey’s Supermarket in reference to a theft of a wallet. On arrival officers met with the complainant who told officers that she had left her wallet on the counter inside the store, and when she realized it, she went back and it was gone. After an investigation and reviewing the surveillance tapes, officers were able to identify a person who had took the wallet. After a short time the person in question came to the police station about her being accused of stealing the wallet in question. And after further investigation, Vienna Smith, 40, of Baxley, was charged with one count of theft of lost/mislaid property in connection with this incident.
Apr. 9 at approx.10:39 a.m., answered a call to IGA Grocery Store in reference to a person slashing a tire on a car in the parking lot. On arrival witnesses directed officers to where the person was, where he was detained pending an investigation. After a brief pat down for officer’s safety, two knives and a shank were seized. After an investigation Ira Waylon Williams, 45, of Baxley, was charged with one count each of disorderly conduct, criminal trespass, and possession of tools for commission of a crime in connection with this incident.
Apr. 11 at approx. 11:24 a.m., met with a complainant at the police station in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had removed a legal document (land deed) from her pocketbook.
