Surely you noticed or were curious of why there were so many yard sales and traffic this past weekend. The 10th annual Peaches to the Beaches Yard Sale was held Friday and Saturday along Highway 341. The sale stretched 200-plus miles from the peach country of middle Georgia to the Jesup area. Baxley had 152 official vendors, more than just a little over 100 vendors in 2013.
“I am proud to say this year’s event was a real success for Appling County,” said Tourism Director Paula Tanner. “We spoke to visitors who stopped at our site from Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, and even had visitors from Maryland….just here seeking the treasures from our yard sale.”
Paula Tanner stated she was truly impressed with the community’s response this year in participating in the “Peaches to the Beaches” event. Not only did individuals sign-up, but many of our local businesses signed on to make this event a huge success. Other vendors who participated were from Alabama, Florida, and Tennessee. Tanner reported that an event like Peaches to the Beaches helps benefit the local economy stating that visitors stopped at local restaurants, stayed overnight in motels, purchased gas from local convenience stores and shopped with downtown merchants.
“I would like to thank all of our vendors and citizens for participating in the event. I would also like to thank City of Baxley, Appling County Commissioners, and Baxley-Appling County Chamber of Commerce for providing the official vendor sites in Appling County. A special thank you to Baxley Police Department for traffic response and security for vendors.”
The Baxley-Appling County Board of Tourism helped organize the event under the directions of the Golden Isles Parkway Association who sponsors the Peaches to the Beaches Yard Sale. The Golden Isles Parkway Association represents communities along U.S. Highway 341 in Georgia, from Barnesville to the Jesup area.
