Jessie Louis “Joe” Crowley, 82, of Baxley, died Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at his residence.Crowley was born January 17, 1932 in Liberty County and was the son of the late Leland Ross Crowley and the late Eva Ashmore Crowley.
He was a member of the Fleming Baptist Church. Crowley was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Appling County Road Department as a supervisor. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Grace Crowley, two sons, Jerry Kersey and Ronnie Crowley.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Wendell Spell, of Baxley; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Lawton Shumans, of Richmond Hill; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Clarence and Joy Crowley, Paul and Margie Crowley, both of Fleming, and Clinton and Bobbie Crowley, of Alabama; one grandchild, Lisa Fields and two great grandchildren, Matthew Fields and Sydney Fields; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 28 at 11:00 a.m. from the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with the Rev. David Herndon and the Rev. Rick Brown officiating.
Interment followed at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Fleming at 3:00 p.m. with Military Honors.
Active pallbearers were Matthew Fields, Bubba Crowley, John Crowley, David Bryant, Bill McGuire and Freddie McLain.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Errol G. Graham and Staff, Comfort Care Hospice and Appling County Road Department.
Musical selections were rendered by Marilyn Bass and the Rev. Rick and Julie Brown.
Visitation was Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Swain Funeral Home.
