Eugene Anthony Tomberlin, Sr. passed away on January 12, 2014. He was born in Baxley on August 23, 1951 to the parentage of Vernie and Carrie Bell Tomberlin. Eugene was a member of the last graduating class of the Appling County Consolidated High School in 1970. Tomberlin was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church in West Palm Beach, FL and the First Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Baxley. Eugene, an entrepreneur was the owner of Gene’s Lawn and Landscaping Service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Louise Tomberlin Gibbs and Gerelene Tomberlin Williams; brothers, Willie C. Tomberlin and Jureal Tomberlin and a granddaughter, Sariyah Marie Tomberlin.
He is survived by one son, Eugene Anthony Tomberlin, Jr. of West Palm Beach, FL; four sisters, Birdie (Evrod) Scott of Hazlehurst, Ann (Bobby) Locke of Hazlehurst, Dorothy Brown of Baxley and Rita Faye Tomberlin of Baxley; five brothers, Joe (Frances) Tomberlin of West Palm Beach, FL, Sammy (Dorothy) Tomberlin of Jacksonville, N.C., Deron (Willie Mae) Tomberlin of Alma, James Tomberlin of Vidalia and Levern Tomberlin of Riviera Beach, FL; two aunts, Ruby Tomberlin of Norwalk, CT and Maude Williams of Miami, FL; a very special friend, Mary Williams of West Palm Beach, FL and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 25 from the First Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Edwin Williams presiding and eulogy given by Bishop Lucious Rogers. Interment followed in First Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Terrance Tomberlin, Shaun Tomberlin, Ronald Williams, George Paulk, Mitchell Paulk, Jason Tomberlin, Stanley Tomberlin, Melvin Paulk and Patrick Wright.
Honorary pallbearers were the classmates of the Class of 1970.
Music selections were rendered by Deacon Lennis Paulk, the Voices of Genesis and the choir.
Brown Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
