Herbert Edsel “Mr. Ed” Harris, 88, of Baxley, died Wednesday, January 15, 2014.
Harris was born June 29, 1925 in Appling County and was the son of the late Frank Harris and the late Blanch Milikin Harris. He was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church and a member of the American Legion. Harris served in the United States Army in World War II. He was a retired Appling County School Bus Driver and a farmer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Westberry Harris, two sisters and four brothers.
Survivors include his two sons and daughter-in-law, Corbitt and Judy Harris and Wayne Harris, all of Baxley; five grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 19 at 3:00 p.m. from Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with the Rev. Darrell Quinn and the Rev. Paul Dubberly officiating. He lay in state one hour prior to the funeral service.
Active pallbearers were Russell Griffin, Larry Williams, James Newman, Glen Crummey, Ronnie Crummey, Terry Rentz and Ashley Kearney.
Honorary pallbearers were Mrs. Carolyn McCall’s Sunday school Class of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.
Interment followed in the Milikin Cemetery.
Visitation was held Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Swain Funeral Home.
Musical selections were rendered by Jonathan and Ansley Hickox and Fred and Tammy Anderson.
Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
