John Henry McGuirt, 72, of Baxley, died Sunday, January 11, 2014, in Memorial Medical Center in Savannah. McGuirt was born December 21, 1941 in Wayne County and was the son of the late Daniel and Ethel McGuirt. He was a member of Friendship Congregational Christian Church and worked with REBCO Construction Co. before retiring. He was married to Bobby Johnson McGuirt and was preceded in death by his first wife, Lavanna White McGuirt and five brothers, Robert, Daniel, Jr., Garland, Ronald and Clayton McGuirt.
Survivors include his wife, Bobbie McGuirt of Baxley; one daughter, Kristy Beach of Hazlehurst; three sons, John Timothy McGuirt, Scott Edison McGuirt, and Brad Vaughn, all of Baxley; one brother, George McGuirt of Fernandina Beach, FL and nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 14 at 2:00 p.m. from Baxley Church of God with the Rev. Lamar Lee and the Rev. Monty Lasseter officiating. Interment followed in Omega Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Ricky White, Donnie Smiley, Curtis Forehand, Wendell White, Jeffrey Johnson, and Glen Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers were Mr. and Mrs. Alton Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Reynolds, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Doyle, Keelie Thornton, Donald Harrelson, Ronnie Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Sheffield, Shane Parker, Candace Stone, Baxley Church of God Advent Sunday School Class and Young at Heart Group, and Chad Beach.
Music was rendered by Pat Skinner, Javan Anderson, the Rev. Monty Lasseter, the Rev. Lamar Lee, and The Baxley Church of God Choir.
