Linda Gail “Madea” Moore was born on February 16, 1951 in Surrency to the late William Bennie Lee Barfield and Gladys Lee Moore Thomas. She graduated from the Appling Consolidated High School.
Ms. Moore passed peacefully on Monday, January 13, 2014 at her residence in Baxley.
Madea accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of the Rachel Missionary Baptist Church in Baxley.
She was preceded in death by Cynthia Harris, Patricia Chappell, Wade, Kellie, Doris, Clayton, Adolph, Buddy, Rosie Lee, Bennie, Donald, Kattie Lee and Payne Barfield.
Survivors include her loving and devoted children, Sonya (Ashles) Swinson of Broxton, Bennie (Melinda) Moore of Baxley; a godson, Alfonso (Necey) Nails of Baxley; four sisters, Elaine Harris of Baxley, Willie Mae Harris of Bronx, NY, Mary Jane (Tiny) Barfield of Hollywood, FL and Norma Jean (Rufus) Ervin of Baxley; eight brothers, James Albert (Fuss) Thomas of Baxley, Adam Barfield of Surrency, Jerry (Rochelle) Barfield, Lamar Barfield, Larry Barfield and Frank Barfield, all of Hollywood, FL, Joe Barfield of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Willie James Harris of Wilmington, DE; four aunts, Eudell Harris Jenkins and Maddie Cain of New York, NY, Alice Williams of Baxley and Eura Lee Barfield of Surrency; special friend, Betty (Hosie) Hills of Graham; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, Madison Skipper and Tyler Smith, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services honoring the life of Madea Moore were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 18 from Rachel Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Kendall Bennamon officiating. Eulogy was given by Prophetess Tammie Byrd. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Tracy Jones, Stacey Wilkerson, Lemuel Wilkerson, Eric Vann, Mitchell Wilkerson, Darryl Shaw and Ken Sellers.
Honorary pallbearers were Horace Sellers, Tyrone Harris, Larry Sellers and Kirk Harris.
Musical selections were rendered by Ashles Swinson, Carletha Wright and Jamie Nails.
