On Tuesday, January 14, Appling Christian Academy Principal Jerome Grenade presented the following information at the Baxley-Appling County Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Meeting about the STAR Student for Appling Christian.
On behalf of our staff and school board of directors, I wish to thank the chamber for the opportunity to honor and recognize Appling Christian Academy’s STAR student and STAR teacher for the 2013-2014 school year.
On the common application for college admission, counselors are asked to write the first words that come to mind to describe the student. I answered that question on Erika’s application with the following words: person of integrity, respectful, intelligent, determined, focused, strong character…all of which describes ACA’s STAR student, Miss Erika Causey.
Erika is the daughter of Mark and Deborah Causey. She has attended ACA since kindergarten and it has been my privilege to know Erika since she was in the 5th grade.
Erika has received academic honors and recognitions throughout her high school career including being named to the A Honor Roll for past 11 years. In addition, she is a member of the ACA Christian Honor Society. She is maintaining a 4.0 GPA in her academic high school career. The 4.0 grade point average translates into an academic average of 97.3 for the three and one half years of high for Erika.
While Erika will be able to attend most any university she chooses, such prestigious universities as Harvard and Yale are at the top of her list. Tomorrow she has an interview with the Harvard University admissions committee.
Erika scored a 1930 on her SAT to qualify as a STAR student. Ladies and gentlemen, Miss Erika Causey.
(Causey then presented the STAR Teacher Award to Sheri Allen.)
