Game 1
The Pirates started the scoring early scoring six first inning runs to take the lead 6-0. With one out Justin Javis walked and Byron Buxton singled. Tyler Avera drove home Javis with a double. Kyle Miller followed with a double of his own to plate Buxton and Avera. Devin Causey followed with a solid single to center to score Miller from second. A walk to Jeremy Ammons was followed by a single by Gage Patton to round out the scoring in the inning.
The Pirates would add one run in the second. The bottom of the third proved to be another big inning for the Pirates. This time the rally was started by a leadoff single by Patton. Josh Barber followed with a single. Buxton singled to drive in Patton. Avera delivered the big blow of the inning with a three-run homerun to left center field to make the score 11-0 after three innings of play.
The home team finished the game in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run blast just inside left field foul pole off the bat of Byron Buxton. Final score 16-0 in favor of the Pirates.
Byron Buxton pitched a one hit shutout, striking out ten Crawford County batters. Top hitting performances of the game included: Barber 2-4; Buxton 3-3,HR; Avera 2-2, HR, Double and Gage Patton 3-3.
Game 2
In the second game the Pirates would bat first and the Eagles would be the home team. The Pirates wasted no time picking up where they left off in game one, scoring two runs without the benefit of a hit. Justin Javis walked and later scored. Byron Buxton got hit by a pitch and scored on the back end of a double steal as Kyle Miller got into run down between first and second long enough to allow Buxton to score. They lead 2-0 after one.
The Pirates would scratch for another run in the second when Jeremy Ammons reached on an error. Colby Griffin laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Ammons to second. Gage Patton continued his hot hitting with a line drive double to the gap in right center scoring Ammons.
In the top of the third the Pirates center fielder Byron Buxton hit a line drive over the fence in center field for a homerun for the Pirates third run of the game. In the bottom half, the Eagles scored one run after a single and two groundouts to get on the board for the first time on the day.
The Pirates scored another run in the top half of the fourth inning. Jeremy Ammons reached on a walk. Colby Griffin walked, followed by a sac fly by Gage Patton.
The Pirates scored two more runs in top of the fifth inning. Tyler Avera singled after one out. Kyle Miller got an infield hit. Devin Causey drove home Avera with a single. Causey later scored on a wild pitch. The final score was 7-2. Tyler Avera got the win on the mound going six innings giving up two runs. He walked three, hit two batters, and allowed only two hits.
The Pirates will now play Dodge County starting on Wednesday, May 11 in Eastman with the game scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
Dodge defeated Fitzgerald 12-2 on Saturday to advance to the second round. Dodge County is the number one seed from Region 3AA.
