A Funeral Ceremony was celebrated Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette, Louisiana for Charles Leslie Overstreet, 78, who passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
Visitation was observed at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette, Louisiana on Friday, December 27, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and resumed Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 8:30 a.m. until the time of services.
Interment followed in Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Pastor Brandon Miller, Associate Pastor of Family Life Church in Lafayette, Louisiana officiated.
Charles was born Wednesday, November 27, 1935 in Collins, and was a long time resident of Acadiana. A proud veteran, Charles served as an Airman Second Class in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a Sheriff’s Deputy for Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Department for 16 years.
Charles was an avid collector of knives, guns, clocks, watches and model cars. He loved John Deere tractors as well as western movies. He will be deeply missed by dear friends from the sheriff’s department, neighbors, relatives and most of all, by his devoted wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Charles was survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Beverly Overstreet of Lafayette; three sons, Charles A. Overstreet, David Overstreet of Dallas, TX and Randy Overstreet of Jackson, MS; two daughters, Sandi Slice of Pelion, SC and Traci Sautter of Shreveport, LA; three stepdaughters, Sharon Roe of Erath, LA, Cheryl Menard of Lafayette, LA, and Charlene “Charlie” Domingue of Abbeville, LA; two stepsons, Davis Menard and Michael Domingue of Lafayette, LA; one brother, Hugh Overstreet of Panama City, FL; 28 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Grady Overstreet, his mother, Corinne Tuten Overstreet Knight, his stepfather, Orville Knight, his daughter, Arlene Overstreet, his son, Bobby Overstreet, his brother, Richard Overstreet and his sister, Margie James.
