City Manager Jeff Baxley reported that the “Smoke Testing” was successful at the regular Baxley City Council meeting held December 10 at 8:30 a.m., and it helped to determine problems that need to be corrected. The testing started on December 3 and was completed on December 5. Baxley stated a public notice was published in The Baxley News-Banner prior to the testing to inform citizens of the smoke testing and what to expect. The CodeRED emergency communications network system notified residents (only residents that are signed up with CodeRED) within the testing area. The Fire Department only received one call, which resulted as a false alarm due to the smoke testing.
