Number of arrests reported by Chief James Godfrey
The following are highlights of incidents that were handled by officers of the Baxley Police Department over the past several days.
On March 28 at approximately 12:24, met with a resident at a Patterson Road address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that she was missing some jewelry items. Investigation into the incident revealed that the items had been pawned at a local pawnshop. Further investigation resulted in the arrest of Karlee Lastinger, 18, and Tyler Ray Harrelson, 17, both of Baxley, on charges of one count each of theft by taking.
Mar. 28 at approx. 4:15 p.m., met with a resident at a Tippins Street address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that she and her husband own a doublewide trailer at the address and it is currently vacant. When they went to check on it they discovered that person(s) unknown had entered the home by breaking in the back door. Reported missing were some DVD movies and copper, which came out of an air conditioner that was gutted.
Mar. 31 at approx. 8:33 p.m., met with a resident at a Penniman Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had entered her truck and took a black and red Rubbermaid tote that was full of tools and jumper cables.
April 1 at approx. 3:04 p.m., answered a call to the Appling County High School football field. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had removed about eight to nine gallons of diesel fuel from a tank.
April 4 at approx. 4:40 p.m., answered a call to Lewis Battery and Electric in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that a subject had sold the company a used battery that already belonged to the company. After investigation Rocky Wayne Jacobs, 25, of Baxley, was arrested for one count of theft by deception.
April 5 at approx. 11:47 a.m., responded to a call to a Comas Street address in reference to a domestic altercation. On arrival the two subjects were yelling at each other and had to be separated by the officers. After an investigation into the incident Wesley Delanis Fountain, 25, of Baxley, was arrested on charges of one count each of battery and false imprisonment under the family violence act.
April 5 at approx. 9:42 p.m., responded to a call to a Donnie Lane address in reference to a domestic altercation. On arrival officers discovered that an argument had turned into a physical altercation with the boyfriend grabbing the victim and slamming her against a wall two times, with a nine-year-old looking on. Arrested in connection with this incident was Johnny Cisneros, 30, of Baxley, on charges of one count simple battery under the family violence act.
April 7 at approx. 6:10 a.m., met with a resident at a Tippins Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers she was missing her handgun, a Highpoint 9 mm semi automatic, black in color.
April 7 at approx. 8:59 a.m., met with a resident at a Janis Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers during the night person(s) unknown stole two four-wheelers from under his carport. The four-wheelers are described as a blue 250cc Honda Reacon with black racks on it. The other one is a red in color 350cc Honda Rancher ES with black racks on it. Investigation led to the recovery of the blue four-wheeler that had been abandoned approximately 20 yards off the side of Oscar Tippins Road, with the ignition switch cut off and hot wired. Also the rear brake light was busted out. After investigation, Shannon Vaughn, 32, and Lloyd Wesley Evans, 24, both of Baxley, were arrested on charges of two counts each of theft by taking.
April 13 at approx. 11:25 a.m., answered a call to St. James A.M.E. Church in reference to a burglary. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had busted out a glass on the backside of the church to gain entry. Investigation revealed that an office had been rummaged through along with the store room. Reported missing was an undetermined amount of change.
April 13 at approx. 6:00 p.m., answered a call to Wooten Wood Products in reference to a burglary. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had cut the pad lock off the main gate to make entry into the yard area, where they removed three pieces of I-beam, two 20-foot pieces of galvanized pipes, approx. four inches in diameter, a piece of grating approx. four inches thick by four foot long, two pieces of copper wire approx. three foot long that had been taken from two electric motors and also damaged was a coke machine.
April 14 at approx. 10:00 p.m., met with a resident at a Holton Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that two people he knew came to his door wanting some food. The resident left them for just a few minutes and when he returned he discovered them gone along with his 52-inch Vizio flat screen TV. Arrested in connection with this theft was Rocky Wayne Jacobs, 25, and Jackqueline Lee Turner, 22, both of Baxley, on charges of one count each of theft by taking.
April 15 at approx. 1:16 p.m., answered a call to an area on City Circle Road in reference to some subjects fighting inside a small blue car. On arrival officers checked the area and located the vehicle in question. An adult female and three small children were inside the car, parked on the side of the road. The officers, upon inquiring about the call, noticed two more subjects walking toward them on the side of the road, a female carrying a small child and a male subject which seemed to be arguing. The subjects were detained and the child was placed with the other adult female, until officers could conduct an investigation. As a result of the investigation, Jemarius Reshard Hosley, 27, and Traci Riendeau, 19, both of Baxley, were arrested on one count each of simple battery and cruelty to children in the third degree under the Family Violence Act.
April 15 at approx. 5:22 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the LPC officer whom had a subject detained for taking some items without paying for them. Arrested in connection with this incident was Rachel Guy, 17, of Brunswick, on charges of one count theft by shoplifting.
April 16 at approx. 9:15 a.m., answered a call to Mayer’s Florist in reference to a burglary. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown busted out a window to gain entry and removed a small amount of currency and change.
April 17 at approx. 2:44 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival the officers met with the LPC officer whom had a subject detained for taking some items without paying for them. The subject attempted to pass himself off as a 16-year-old juvenile subject. Further investigation resulted in the arrest of the subject a Domingo Ismael Sanchez, 22, of McRae, on charges of one count each of theft by shoplifting and giving false information to a police officer.
April 20 at approx. 8:28 p.m., answered a call to a Sursson Street address in reference to a subject holding a shotgun on several subjects. On arrival officers discovered that there were several subjects yelling and that the shotgun had been taken away from the individual. Investigation revealed that the altercation was a result of a domestic argument that turned physical. Arrested in connection with this incident was Terry Dewayne Cromartie, 45, of Baxley, on charges of one count each of pointing a firearm at another and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
April 22 at approx. 5:27 a.m., while assisting in an air vac at the Appling General Hospital, officers observed a vehicle traveling at high rate of speed and nearly hitting the helicopter and almost striking a deputies unit. A chase ensued, with the driver refusing to stop for the officers blue lights and sirens. The chase continued behind the Musicians Place where officers believed to have the driver trapped, only the driver managed to get away after running into one of the deputies unit. The driver then continued on a short distance before jumping out of the vehicle and eluding officers on foot. The vehicle, a gold in color 2000 Ford Windstar, was impounded pending further investigation.
April 22 at approx. 8:11 a.m., met with a complainant at Elm’s Tree Service in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had removed several items from a trailer that he had left parked behind Cothern Varnadore. Reported missing was a big ammo box full of misc. tools, four ammo boxes, 250 chains, a five gallon gas can with a yellow funnel, a small gas can, two boxes of stump grinder teeth and some nuts and bolts.
April 23 at approx. 3:03 p.m., met with a resident at an East Allen Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers he had laid his weed eater down and had moved to his back yard to work for just a few minutes and when he returned to get the weed eater, it was gone. The weed eater is described as a Weed Eater name brand and is green and yellow in color.
April 23 at approx. 8:43 p.m., while conducting business checks, security was alerted to a suspicious person. When checking the area, officers observed a subject that seemed intoxicated. The officers detained the subject for questioning and after a brief patdown for officer safety, a small can containing marijuana cigarettes was seized. Arrested in connection with this seizure was Steven Douglas Haney, 46, of Baxley, on charges of one count each of public intoxication and possession of marijuana.
April 27 at approx. 9:15 a.m., met with Baxley Public Works employees at a Copeland and Lee Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival the employees told officers that a large quantity of metal and pumps and other miscellaneous scrap iron had been taken from the metal building where it was being stored for the City of Baxley.
April 27 at approx. 1:55 p.m., answered a call to Bailey Boys Manufacturing Plant in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with a complainant who told them that a white male subject had loaded up several metal racks into a black in color trailer with a tag on the top of the loading ramp. The trailer was being pulled by a small, white in color, pickup truck.
April 27 approx. 10:49 a.m., answered a call to the Appling Elementary School in reference to a burglary. On arrival officers met with a complainant who told them that during the night person(s) unknown had entered the school, by busting out a glass on a back door and had rummaged through several offices and classes. Four individuals are shown on the security cameras entering the school wearing dark clothing and hoods and sunglasses and appeared to be wearing white gloves. There was a flashlight, a knife and a rubber hammer recovered from the crime scene. The items are currently being processed for fingerprints.
April 27 at approx. 12:25, met with a complainant at a Brown Apartment address in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had entered her vehicle and removed her purse, which was black in color. The purse contained several documents and an undetermined amount of currency.
April 28 at approx. 8:41 a.m., met with a resident at a Westwood Apartment address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that he had left his bike on the porch for approximately 15 minutes and when he returned person(s) unknown had removed his bike. The bike is described as a blue in color, 26 inch Beach Cruiser with a brown seat, brown handlebar grips and white wall tires.
