The Appling County Board of Commissioners held its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, April 19 beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Courthouse Annex. During the meeting the commissioners opened sealed bids for electrical improvements to the Appling County Tractor Pull Track. The lowest two bids of the five submitted where from Rebco, in the amount of $28,000.00, and Trinity Electric for $29,727.00. A motion was made by Commissioner Theodore Wilkerson to accept the low bid pending the low bidder meets county policy for contractor work. Commissioner Ronnie Rentz made a second to the motion. The motion passed by a four to one vote with Commissioner Jasper Tomberlin voting against.

A proposal to accept Willow Lane into the County Road System was proposed to the commissioners. The proposal would cover the entire length of the Lane, which is two tenths of a mile. A motion was made by Commissioner Rentz, with a second by Commissioner Sarah Boatright, to accept the proposal. The motion carried unanimously.
County manager Lee Lewis informed the commissioners that insurance would be covering the replacement of the guardrail and concrete on a bridge on County Farm Road due to a recent accident. Lewis stated that Southern Concrete would be doing the work.
Following a closed-door session, a motion was made to accept Daryl Holcombe as the Deputy Director of Emergency Management. The motion carried with Tomberlin voting against the motion.
A motion was made to renew Lewis’ contract as county manager. The motion was approved unanimously.
April 27 Called Meeting
A called meeting was held on Wednesday, April 27 starting at 4:00 p.m. During the meeting the commissioners discussed the appointment and/or reappointment of members of the Development Authority. The appointments are scheduled to be voted on at the next meeting.
Information was shared about the plans to add a parking lot in the vacant lot left after the demolition of the Dr. Bedingfield Building.
Following a closed-door session session, a motion was made by Commissioner Wilkerson, with a second by Commissioner Rentz, to approve the rate of $10.00 per hour during training for the recently hired Deputy Director of Emergency Management.
