Miles-Nobles Funeral Home announces the funeral services of Ora Lee Carter, age 97, who passed away Friday, September 27, 2013 at Appling Healthcare System after a brief illness. She was a native and lifelong resident of Appling County; a retired cafeteria worker with the Appling County Board of Education and a member of Spring Branch Baptist Church.
Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her husband, Estell Carter.
Surviving are her three children, Cherry Morris of Baxley, Danny and Vickie Carter of Baxley and Randy and Cathy Carter of Lake City, FL; seven grandchildren, Donna Previto, Mandy Kaari, Brian Carter, Alex Carter, Beth McPherson, Ariel Carter and Patrick Carter; eight great-grandchildren and other family also survive.
Visitation was held Sunday, September 29 from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 30 at 2:00 p.m. from the Spring Branch Baptist Church with the Reverend Brian Gill, and the Reverend Robert Wigley officiating.
Mrs. Carter lay in state one hour prior to the services on Monday.
Interment followed in Carter Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Donald Carter, Tendel Carter, David Reynolds, Vann Carter, Randy Livingston and Spencer Carter.
Honorary pallbearers were the staff of Altamaha Home Health Care, The Pavilion staff, Candler Source of Baxley staff and the Spring Branch Baptist Church Senior Ladies Sunday School Class and Betty Griffin.
