Mildred S. Wilcox, 86, of Hazlehurst, died Friday, January 14, 2011 at Lumber City Nursing Center. Mrs. Wilcox was born April 18, 1924 to the late W. T. Schell and the late Mary Fannie Welch Schell. The native and lifelong resident of Jeff Davis County was the widow of the Rev. James C. Wilcox and a member of First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst. She was also preceded in death by a son, Waymon Wilcox.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Janell and Randy Squires of Brunswick; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Willie Wilcox of Byron, Malcolm and Sandra Wilcox of Macon, and Jimmy and Ethelyn Wilcox of Brunswick; 12 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 17 at First Baptist Church with the Revs. Rick Brown, Justin McLellan and John Darsey officiating. Interment followed in Hazlehurst City Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were George Bohannon, Ronnie Harrell, Jim Girtman, Jones Hart, Wayne Kirkley, and Jeff Moore.
Honorary pallbearers were member of the Ladies VII Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church, the nursing staffs of Lumber City Nursing Center and Jeff Davis Hospital, Ernest and Brenda Kersey, Dr. Frank Bixler and Staff, Dr. Alejandro Pernett and Staff, and Dr. David Turfler and Staff.
Musical selections were rendered by Kathy Lord, Kimberly Girtman and Amy Moore.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home.
