Appling County School System missed four student days due to severe rain and road conditions during the week of August 19. There were points in time that over 40 roads were closed in the county. It has been a long time since Appling County has experienced this much rain at one time that affected roadways. The school system again commends our County Road Department for working diligently to repair our roads for travel.
In an effort to address the missed days, the Leadership Team and the Superintendent met to review the situation. The Leadership Team strongly recommended to the Superintendent a need to recapture some of the lost days of instruction for students. The consensus was if schools could recapture two of the four days, instructional time could be gained. The current calendar was reviewed and it was noted that October would be best for selecting these days.
This information was presented to the Board of Education and approved on Monday, September 16. Therefore, October 10 and October 11 will become student instructional days and October 14 will now become an In-Service Day.
Our System Calendar will be updated and posted on the system website for your convenience.
