Stephanie Newkirk Thomas passed away on Monday, August 26, 2013. Stephanie was born in Baxley to Eddie Joe (Clisten) Newkirk and Vivian Richardson Oct. 7, 1967. She was a graduate of Appling County School System, Class of 1986. Stephanie was a member of the Greater Faith Temple Church of God in Christ of Baxley, under the pastorage of Elder Norris Williams, Sr. and Evangelist Gail Williams.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Belinda Faye Newkirk; fraternal grandparents, Hubert and Bernice Byrd and maternal grandparents, Joe and Elzira Newkirk.
Survivors include three children, Tamara Newkirk of Swainsboro, Donte Freeman of Atlanta and Brianna Freeman of Baxley; five sisters, Monique Newkirk of Brunswick, Marguerite Newkirk of Chattanooga, TN, Leah (Sean) Thomas of Baxley, Ingrid (Alfrie) Troupe of Douglasville and Robie Ann Smith of Warner Robins; six brothers, Chandler Byrd of Baxley, Eddie Joe (Angel) Newkirk, Jr. of Baxley, Nathaniel (Amber) Newkirk of Columbus, MS, Lance Newkirk of Brunswick, James (Angie) Gibbs of Baxley and Stanley (Shonda) Gibbs of Surrency; special aunt, Stella Oakman of Baxley; special uncle, Edward (Mary) Barney of Baxley; special friends, Latrelle Barfield-Davis and Gloria Russell of Baxley and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Home going services for Stephanie Newkirk-Thomas were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 31 at Greater Faith Temple Church of God in Christ, Baxley, with Elder Roger Snell presiding and eulogy given by Pastor Norris Williams, Sr. Interment followed in Old Field Cemetery.
Musical selections were rendered by Lance Newkirk and the Greater Faith Temple Choir.
Active pallbearers were Donte Freeman, Stanford Byrd, Hubert Byrd, Kenneth Byrd, Alvin Byrd, Randall Byrd, Jr. and Vernon Byrd.
Honorary pallbearers were the staff of Wal-Mart, staff of Appling HealthCare System and staff of Comfort Care Hospice.
