Godfrey stated that they are in the process of following up on the incidents that were connected to these items. He also stated that warrants are pending until the items are processed and other departments are contacted. Godfrey stated there are approximately eight adults and six kids living in this home, about three families. He further reported that the Baxley Police Department is following up on the disarray of the home, water problems, electric problems and problems in general with the structure of the home located at 207 Holmesville Ave. He stated at present time the department is and has been working with other jurisdictions in connection with these burglaries and other incidents. Godfrey added officers have been very visible in the neighborhood around Holmesville Ave. and the surrounding neighborhoods.
“Officers are aggressively talking to people and conducting stops and conducting routine questioning scenarios,” Godfrey said.
Godfrey also reported there was a burglary on July 7 at K&L where the door was kicked in and some money removed along with the cash register. After investigation on July 8 two arrests were made in connection with the burglary at K&L. Robert Sterns, 20, of a Fair Street address and Amy Michelle Jones, 27, of a Jones Street address, both on one count each of burglary. On July 5 the IGA laundry mat was burglarized in which a sum of change was removed from several washing machines, dryers and other machines. Warrants have been issued for the arrest of Johnny Bryant, 46, of Baxley, on one count theft by taking in connection with this incident. Also on July 5 there was an assault on a Troup Street address and an arrest was made on a Leslie Edison Harris, 46, on one count of aggravated assault. Godfrey stated that Harris cut several subjects after an altercation at the address.
Godfrey stated at the present time they are working on an arrest in connection with a theft of tools from Miles Machine Shop. He also stated he was unable to give any more details at that time as investigation into this incident is ongoing. Chief Godfrey reported Mike Mayers found his ring that was reported missing and Mrs. Werner reported after checking back through her residence for missing items, she did discover that several pieces of jewelry are missing from the earlier break in at her residence.
