Deodus Simpson, Jr. died Wednesday, April 6, 2011. Deodus Jr. was born in Baxley, Appling County on Nov. 27, 1949 to the late Deodus Simpson Sr. and Ruthie Mae Brown Simpson. Mr. Simpson received the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior at an early age at the Saint James A.M.E. Church of Baxley. He graduated from Appling County Consolidated High School in 1968. Mr. Simpson was a kind, gentle, loving and honest person to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by all.
Survivors include two brothers, Shelly Simpson of Jacksonville, FL and Terry Simpson of Baxley; three sisters, Genevive Howard and Betty Copeland of Baxley and Shirley (Charles) Scott of Waycross; one uncle, James Gerald of Jacksonville, FL; very special friends, Mattie Nails and Morcia Sulph and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and family.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 16 at Saint James A.M.E. Church with Minister Starlon Byrd presiding. Eulogy was given by the Rev. Douglas Stinson. Interment followed in Rachel Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Quincy Bennett, Stacey Copeland, Johnny Howard, Sr., Mitch Coley, Curtis Harris, Tracy Copeland, Rodney Maxwell, Jerry Howard, Gerald Randolph and Tony Skipper.
Honorary pallbearers were Appling County Consolidated High School Class of 1968, Altamaha Healthcare staff, Mattie Nails, Morcia Sulph and Charles Smith.
The choir, Evangelist Jacquetta Edwards, Peggy Fletcher and Carletha and Christine Wright, rendered musical selections.
Arrangements were under the directions of Brown Funeral Home.
