Junior pitcher/outfielder Byron Buxton pitched a gem of a game against the Toombs County Bulldogs in Lyons on Tuesday night. He struck out twelve batters including five of the last six outs of the game. He pitched a three hit, 4-0 shutout.
Buxton strikes out twelve in win over Toombs County
The Pirates avenged a loss from earlier in the season to the Bulldogs.
The Pirates scored three times in the first inning to get the game started on a positive note. Josh Barber walked to start the game.
Jeremy Ammons followed him with a walk. Buxton singled to plate Barber. Tyler Avera singled to load the bases for Devin Causey. Devin lined a pitch to center field to drive home another run to make the score 3-0.
The Pirates would add another run in the fifth inning to take the lead to 4-0. That was all the Pirates needed as the Bulldogs failed to get their offense going against the junior right-hander.
The win put the Pirates’ region record to 9-4 and all but eliminated Toombs from the playoff picture.
The Pirates will host Brantley County on April 25 and will finish the regular season against the Herons in Nahunta on April 29. Both games are scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
