The Appling Christian Eagles completed Region play this week with a pair of wins. On Friday in Valdosta the Eagles won 18 to 2 over the Open Bible Christian Warriors. The offense came early and often for the Eagles with four runs scored in the first inning of play. The Warriors would score their only two runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Eagles plated three more runs in the second inning. Appling went quietly in the third but erupted for eleven runs in the fourth and final inning of play.
Brandon Horton led in hits with three. Caleb Ellington posted two hits one of which was a two-run home run. Bryce Livingston added two hits as well.
Andrew Phillips finished the game with two hits that netted four RBI. Caleb Ellington was the winning pitcher, pitching all four innings, allowing only four hits while walking four and striking out six.
Monday the Eagles of Appling Christian hosted the Eagles of Bible Baptist from Hampton for their final regular season region game. The mercy rule would again be invoked in the three-inning game.
Don Phillips was the winning pitcher throwing a no hit shutout. The only runner to reach was via a base on balls in the first inning.
Phillips struck out four while facing only ten batters. Once again the Appling Christian team put up plenty of offense scoring seventeen times. Andrew Phillips lead with four hits, one a three-run homer, and the final hit of the game a three-run triple. Rex Cox also had a good day at the plate with two hits and four RBIs. Jamie Dover, Bryce Livingston, Caleb Ellington, and Don Phillips all added a hit apiece.
“It is nice to go undefeated in the region. This is the first time for Appling Christian Baseball. Now begins the hard work and concentration of preparing to take the next step, moving to the playoffs. Being the top seed we received a bye in the first round and are unsure whom we will face in the second round. We will host the second round here at Eagle Field in Baxley on Friday the 29th of April”, stated Coach Phil Phillips.
